I was thinking of this thread today as I was driving my car to work. With my 15" wheels, the mp3 factory radio, custom cup holder, remote doors and hatch, new paint and interior, and after the replacement of most wear items under the hood, I consider my car a reliable, comfortable, and affordable daily driver. The v6 even gets respectable MPG, so I'm not even missing out on that over my other cars. I love the attention it gets too
for now mine is, but only for 2 weeks. then it'll be a friday only once i get back from afghan.

I did use my gray one for a DD last year, I bought another car to be my winter DD, couldn't see the car sitting in the snow and salt even though it got through it unscaved.

Mines a DD. But I rarely drive. I try to use the family SUV as much as I can.

D.D. 45 miles round trip for work. Year round NW Ohio....... Swap out rims in the fall and add some weight in the rear for the winter and off we go! Do feel guilty takin' her in all that salt but a guy has to work, ya know! Suspension is rough but one of the most reliable cars I have ever had in 23 years of driving.....
Member
other than the past 3 weeks of working on it (bodywork, undercoating, carb rebuild and on) i have been driving it everyday. ohio goes overboard with the salting but im hoping the body work/paint, undercoating i did plus washing it every so often in winter will prevent damage. i always got the wifeys car if the weather gets too bad! my prev. car 88 mr2 rusted out in a year from salt around here. From solid to giant holes in one winter! (thats after a fresh repaint)

I will be DD my new to me third gen until it starts to snow then hopefully I will be driving my other car. I just bought a 92 Camaro RS. It's teal and I love it! Tomorrow will be the first day I drive it to work (28 mile round trip) Im going to undercoat it just incase I have to drive it a few times this winter.

My 91's my daily even through the winter which if I had a choice it wouldn't be if the funds permitted. She gets me 23mpg in town and 31 highway with the 3.1 v6.
Battery died today, I guess that's what I get for using a old one. Lol.

Mythird gen was my daily driver (spring, summer, & fall anyway) from 06-08. Since I have moved to kentucky for school, and will soon be moving to Oklahoma for the Army, it has been in storage for the last three years. Hoping to change that once things settle a bit and I get to Fort Bliss in El Paso

Mine just went back to being a DD for a short while....My fuel pump went out on the Silvy, and won't get fixed until next week....and to top it off, it snowed mildly last night....FML.....

I Cant see using mine as a daily driver to be practical for me, i always drive my truck, that way when i see scrap metal i can stop and pick it up. I wont pick it up with my Z28 or the envoy.
I drove my old Firebird all year round. Since work is only 3 miles away I ride my bike to work since it only takes 4 minutes longer. I don't drive my TA much, maybe every 3 days. Probably won't be driving it during the winter if it is near 0°, or there is snow and ice on the ground. I guess I would have to say no I don't use a thirdgen as a daily driver anymore.

Daily drive my 89 GTA with 118,500 on the car. Only had a few problems here and there. Really saddens me that I'll have to drive it this winter. But it's undercoated so I should be allright. I couldn't ask for a better daily driver, the gas mileage is okay, about 18mpg average, and everywhere I take it I get looks!

I use my 85 Z28 350sb as a DD, to school, work and just doing whatever, its going to be fun come winter time. Lucky when its snows heavy i can use my sisters Jeep wrangler =)

I daily drive mine except for winter. Previous owner was an engineer and did the same thing too. Its my most fun car. You need to keep up on things, but its not too bad. I have owned it 3 years and have put about 35k on it. Has 145k on it now and still has its original paint. Car has been on the Power Tour too

Mine wasn't supposed to be a DD this year, but after moving to England and taking it with me, I don't have the money to purchase a beater for the winter. It's originally a Minnesota car, so it is undercoated, but we'll see how it survives the winter with the salt. Good thing they don't get much snow here, maybe 6" all year or so they say. I'm more worried about the ice and no ABS lol! I drive 25 miles round trip to work not including going out for lunch and driving to that, so probably 30 miles total each day during the week. Almost parked it and put it up for sale, two months after I got here, the rear-end went out after having it rebuilt last year and then the Carb/motor had issues which turned out to be simple, but as I didn't know what caused it, wound up costin gme $700 in shop fees. So $1500 on the car two months after I got here didn't make the wife happy at all. But, I love driving it and other than that it's been running really well other than the normal repair stuff, i.e. header gaskets, spark plug, fuel filter, window came off track etc.

my 86 iroc is an ongoing temperamental resto project currently at 174,xxx miles as it was dd by the original owner. just waiting on a new house to get serious with a full restoration.
my 90 rs 3.1L now at 164,xxx has been driven daily since i got er when i was in high school 5 years ago, 3 years ago when i lived in sacramento i drove er everywhere and 180miles round trip back home on the weekends, and when i worked in merced it was a 80 mile round trip 6 days a week. now im back in town so they both got it easy.but the old rs has been a trooper
only hick ups were a pcm, fuel pump, ign module, and a battery and alternator back when i used to blast the sound which is now disconnected.

I used mine for almost 5 years as a daily driver, and it was probably the best car I've ever owned
Of course now it is just a summer cruiser

I do less 2000 km per year with it, but I will start to drive it more next summer. It will never be a DD here in Canada.

I think the question was DO YOU use your third gen as a daily driver? 1200 miles per year would definitely not qualify.Originally Posted by Alain2

(As long as there is no salt on the roads!) My C4 has taken most of the driving but I still drive the Camaro too! I just can't stand to see her sit there... These cars are meant to be driven like has already been stated. I don't care much for trailer queens. When the Corvette went down the Camaro took over DD responsibilities. She has NEVER let me down. I am hoping to go back to Fuel Injection sometime though. The carb is the only thing killing drivability, I can't tune it very well... :/ I could NEVER ever sell the Camaro. It was my first car and it has too much sentimental value.

My 84z gets driven daily. It started out as my weekend/nice weather car. Ive changed the engine to a 350, got a built trans, and added a bunch of other new parts. Then I got rid of my other car and truck to buy a used vette. So, for the last 2 years the z28 is my everyday car. I spent so much $ on the car that I will probably never sell it!

I drove mine daily when I had one regardless of the weather. For a brief time I had a pair and would switch. I got one tho...car I want to buy from original owner is an 82 Z28, four barrel four speed, and he has driven it daily since taking delivery in June of 82. I respect the hell outta that.

I drive mine everyday and beat the **** out of it on the weekends no problems except for it being a stock 305 which is boring.
I drive mine everyday, beat the **** out if when i'm in a hurry, showen off, or see some hot chicks or young guys in tuners, which all of em is everyday, only thing that sucks is it bein a 305 TPI with open carrier rear:/. Still fun to try and race it lol

I drove mine daily while in high school, but it's been sitting ever since. This spring she'll move under her own power for the first time in almost 8 years.
I do a lot of driving for work, so I doubt it will ever return to daily status, but I'll definitely bring her out every once and a while. Other than that it will primarily be the weekend toy.
For now the SRT-4 handles daily duties.

They are American Racing AR-23s and as far as I know they are only offered in 15s in our bolt pattern and even then in only a 3.75 BS. I run 235/60r15 on 7in. wide front wheels that tuck in nicely with 255/60r15 on 8in. wide rear that just barely tuck in. Here they are at Summit Racing = http://www.summitracing.com/search/P...?keyword=ar-23
I love them but since they only come in a shallow BS and only in 15s they are not the most common wheel, and I like that. They are perfect for the style of car I'm aiming for.

My '86 hasn't been a DD since 1989. It's been garage kept since 1990 and has not been washed, with a garden hose and a bucket of suds, since 1991. I think it's only seen rain once since 1991, too.

I feel for ya. My car was just the opposite. The first few years I racked up nearly 80k on the clock. Since then a little over ten. The odo is sitting at 90,228 today January 26, 2012. Which for a 26 year old car I don't think is too bad. It's taken me 20 years to replace the worn out stuff and clean every nook and cranny I could get a tooth brush into.

My dad drove my Camaro as a DD for 7 or so years and was very hard on the car. He put it in a cow field one summer so I think its a reliable car especially with 23 mpg.

Mine has been daily driven since I got her, and pushing over 200k and a quart of 20w-50 a week.
Personally, I don't think I'd want to DD anything else haha. Nothing beats the love a man has for his car

Now my DD... Even in the Boston snows. Get her washed once a week... No problems. Carbed 350 .30 over with a T5. New Holley carb delivers over 20mpg on the highway
