Re: Does anyone here use their thirdgen as a daily driver?
I did until about May of last year. I bought my 86 IROC in 2001 and drove it sun, rain, snow about 32 miles a day round trip and every other chance I got. One of the best road trips I ever took was driving from Richmond, VA to Camp Perry, OH in the spring of 2007. It was warm enough on Sunday to drive back with the T-tops out. Fun, fun, fun.
It has "died" on me once and had to be "roll backed" home. The fuel pump went out on me at the gas station on the way to work one morning. The rear end did the growl thing on the way to work one morning but got me to work and back home so I could replace it with a junkyard 9 bolt I'd picked up a year or two before (couldn't pass it up for $75). The 700r4 gave up on the way home from work one day (started slipping in 4th gear/OD) but it made it home. Pulled it out and installed a rebuilt one in the back yard. The computer died on me about a year and half ago but again, it made it back to the house even though it was popping/cracking and dying just about every time I stopped for a light or sign. Other than that its just been brakes, tires, battery, radiator, hoses, etc.
I bought a 2011 Hyundai Genesis Coupe (3.8 Track with a 6 speed manual transmission) at the end of April last year and I rarely drive the IROC these days (once a week maybe).

My first Camaro was my DD. Even though I tried very hard to not have to take it out after the first snow and used city transportation instead. It was still however hard not to take it on days where there wasn't any snow and definitely no salt on the roads.
Hard to believe the car was almost an antique and still being driven as a DD. had over 400K kilometers on it
the most enjoyment I got out of the car was when the snow went away, sun came out and I go get my yearly clay bar and give the ol girl her spring cleaning...... I will vouch for clay bar till the day I die... It cleans your paint up like as if it was a fresh paint job every year
Have to apply polish after clay bar and then wax car. when I did it I was spending 2 days on the entire process but it was well worth it.

I daily drive mine except for winter. Previous owner was an engineer and did the same thing too. Its my most fun car. You need to keep up on things, but its not too bad. I have owned it 3 years and have put about 35k on it. Has 145k on it now and still has its original paint. Car has been on the Power Tour too

I drive my car everyday also.

Re: Does anyone here use their thirdgen as a daily driver?
No, mine is not a DD. It is primarily a toy. The idea behind mine was to drive it on sunny days with the t-tops out. That is not to say I wouldn't buy another one at some point to be a DD driver. The only thing is I've found if you have two of something, you are not neccessarily "doubling" your fun. But from an economical standpoint, it's hard to beat a tpi third gen car!!! parts are cheap and abundant, they get decent milage, and compared to all the modern cars, they are a lot easier to work on!!! I would be afraid if I got another third gen as a daily driver, I wouldn't enjoy the time I spend on "Munch" as much, but it is hard to argue against the economical sense it makes to drive one.

Daily drove my 84 firebird, my 88 irocz, my 94 z28. Now that I have a truck, it's my daily and the new 91 will be registered too, so I guess it'll be which ever I feel like driving lol.

My 89 Iroc goes in hibernation in the winter...but there are days I will take it out in the winter only if it is nice outside...Don't know what I would do without my Iroc...going on 73 years old and loving every second that I have owned it...
