What intake do you have on there? Also what water pump?

The Weiand X-ellerator is just sitting on top,I haven't buttoned it up yet because I'm still trying to decide if I want to spend a little more on something better. Also the guy who had the intake before me cracked it by over tightening the distributor hold down.I'd weld it but I've never welded cast aluminum before.Looks like a sweet intake you got though.

Re: New valve covers arrived

Not at all its just a basic Victor jr. Single plane high rise.

Performer and RPM air gaps, are just larger dual plane manifolds.

The water pump is a stock type GM I believe. Sandblasted, and then refinished.

Re: New valve covers arrived

The timing cover believe it or not I only ended up paying $4 bucks for.I bought a Procomp gear drive set for $54 on ebay with free shipping and it came with the cover, seal, gaskets and hardware.I sold the gear drive on craigslist for $50 leaving me with an awesome timing cover.I compared prices and knew after selling the gear drive you cant beat a polished aluminum timing cover for $4.

Those look sweet man, enjoy!!!

I need to get a pair as well, but need the traditional "bolt in the middle" design.

Re: New valve covers arrived

Well, bad news. I put on the oil pan today and I swung the engine in for a test fit.The pan doesn't fit.Now I have to find a pan for a 69' Gen 1 SBC that clears the k-member.I guess I'll have to buy one with stock capacity. The ebayer didn't specify that it was 7 quart pan,it's thicker in the front so it doesn't clear.Damnit.Minor set back for now.

7 quart pans do fit, you just can't use the stock Y-pipe and stock exhaust routing.

The pan is deeper in the front,The engine will not lower until the motor mounts line up.It has to go down about 1/2 lower.

Just get an 82-92 F-body oil pan for a 2 pc RMS sbc. There are millions of them.

Re: New valve covers arrived

Thats really wierd..

I just got my fabricated aluminum valve covers in the mail today, and I am expecting a polished aluminum timing cover as well.

Great minds think alike. lol!

Edit-

Right when I hit the reply button the UPS man knocked on the door with my timing cover, lol.

Re: New valve covers arrived

I wish I would have seen those,I wouldn't have to drill the holes for the breather and pcv.The good news is I'll be able to put the holes anywhere I want them.

Yeah I thought about getting the ones without the holes and I would have put the breathers in the rear of the cover so they couldnt be seen. Then I thought about the work involved and if I mess up I need to buy new ones and I figured I would just get these with the holes already, lol. Plus I got em' for $65 total which isn't too bad of a deal considering the quality.

You have to lower the engine in, then install the pan from below:

Question....It looks like your timing cover has the counter sunk holes like mine, how did you use the timing tab? Did it come with the cover?

I'm wondering because my timing tab is flush mount so if I tighten it down it bends it.

Re: New valve covers arrived

Thanks!! Yes it has counter sunk holes but they arent "that" deep. I just used this crappy sheet metal one that was on the motor when I got it. I will probably get a new one. I have yet to determine which one I will get.
