Plastic coating on rims

I would like to polish my 16" IROC wheels, but i need to get the plastic coating off first. What is the best chemical to take it off, and any recommendations for getting a great polished finish to them? (aside from alot of elbow grease)
I have seen a few polished sets, and they look great.

------------------
85 IROC, 305 TPI, block from 83 firebird, 3" exhaust, unknown heads/cam, no ECM, Urban Assualt flat green paint, 245/50/16 eagle GT II's. Car was FREE, and worth every broken knuckle.

go to your local auto parts store and get some paint stripper. there's a brand called "aircraft remover" that works well. it has a picture of an airplane on it, you cant miss it. BE VERY VERY CAREFUL! that stuff is strong, try not to get it on your wheels, hands or paint. in other words just read the directions. wear gloves
