Oxidized clearcoat?
Oxidized clearcoat?
Just picked up a 'new' '92 RS today... Paint is original, and in decent shape save for some oxydized areas. Not a single spot of rust on her, not even underneath. VERY clean. Anyway, I was thinking of taking it in to a professional detailer and having the compound/polish done. Worth it? Or should I save the pennies and wait till I can get it into a body shop? Is it possible to 're clear coat' to save the original paint? I can wrench, but I know doo-doo about the exterior stuff. Also, it's got the anniverasy rally stripes and wheels... the wheels look knew and the gold color is still perfect, but the stripes are faded. Any way to restore them or will they need to be replaced? Anyone? Help?

Re: Oxidized clearcoat?
If oxidation is all the way through the clear a repaint is in order. Stripes will need replaced. Detailers have tricks and can make both the paint and the stripes look good, however it will be temporarily short lived.

Cool th\anks. What I figured.... I did drop it off this morning to be detailed, but only because it'll be a couple months before the wallet is ready for paint, and I figure at the least a good detail and wax will help protect what is there.
Thanks!
