Does this paint job seem good?

Today i went to 'california's best' which is a paint shop where i live, and they checked out my car and gave me an estimate. O.k. they told me that i can get a five stage paint job, three layers of i guess regular paint and two more layers of acrylic, she told me thats paint with the clear mixed in. Since i have a two tone paint job, dark blue w/ grey ground effects, it would cost more to get it painted all one color. there are a few little dime size dings, probably like three of four on the car. the doors have a little slight rippling. all in all, the car is very straight. the big thing they said was that since my clear is peeling in alot of places, it would be extra prepping. also, they said that since i have fiberglass front and rear bumpers, it would cost extra to have flex additive mixed in. the told me it would be 1300 for the paint job, without door jams, hatch jam and under hood. this paint job is there regular 600 job but all the extra prep work is bringing it up. does this sound right? they also quoted me at 150 dollars to cut out the little slot in my ascd big block hood, so the front will be functional. this all seems high to me, what about you?

if possible, do the body work yourself. there's 700 bucks you'll save yourself. 150 is way to much to cut out that hole. i wouldn't think they would need any supplies, just labor, and i doubt it will take very long

it sounds like a macco job to me! personally, save another grand and go to someone who will include the door jambs and the like. you'll be much happier. sounds to me like they were planning on ruffing up your existing paint and painting over it, unless you know a painter there i would stay clear if your looking to have a nice job.

if you just want something to get you by then go for it.

painting is an art, there are people who will do good work for cheap but they are hard to come by; i would check out some of their work first before coming to a conclusion if you have your heart set.

I used to paint show cars, and man, are they bending you over. It should be less money to paint it all one color, they don't need to mix more paint, and they don't need to do extra prepping and masking. Just becuause the clear coat is peeling does not mean that there would be extra prepping involved. There just going to paint over the old paint anyway, so they need to sand down the old paint. There is a right way, and a wrong way to do it, and this sounds like the wrong way. You'd be better off going to macco, or 1 day.

yeah i knew something didnt seem right, thanks guys i guess i wont be going to them. my friend with an 86 5.0 is getting a paint job from them right now and they are installing ground effects, replacing his doors with some that hes got on the side, and painting the whole car for 900. how in the heck did i get quoted 400 more? what should i expect to pay for a nice paint job, maybe a base coat clear coat job, with door jams and the rest? I just want dark blue and later id be adding white stripes.
