Getting ready to paint the calipers tomorrow or the next day. Last min questions
Ok so I plan on taking them off the rotor. Should I take the brake line off of them too or just let them hang there? Anyways I got High Engine Heat red paint and I also got High Engine Heat clear paint. Thinking it would act as a clear coat. I asked the guy at AutoZone if he thought it would work as a clear coat and he said he really didn't know. But he said that he didn't have any high heat clear coat paint so I was SOL. What should I do about the clear coat? Will what I got work?
Ok better yet here, how do I take the caliper all the way off the car? What do you do just pull the brake line off the caliper? BTW, that will cause all the brake fluid to drain out right? How do you fill it back up? I guess this would be "bleeding the brakes"
There are 2 bolts that hold the caliper to the backing plate (PBR setup). As far as the fluid leaking out, just use some vice grips and clamp down on the hose. Place a towel on the line before using the grips so you don't accidently gouge the line. Then unscrew the bolt that holds the brake line on and the caliper will come right off. Also, you might want to pick up some aluminum washers for the brake lines (4 total) to replace the existing ones. Again, this was for my 89+ setup. I don't know if its the same for -89 setups.

If you dont' know how to take the calipers off don't be doing this. Second, spray paint won't cover these very well. Clean them with lots of Castrol Super cleaner. This is how I did mine. I suggest you get a thick brush and brush the paint on. Works alot better.
Thanks Simon that is a good idea. I think that will work nicely. Im gonna prime them too to make it look nicer. My question is would the high temp clear PAINT work as a clear coat?

It probably will. But when you prime, use the high temp prime also.I used the hi temp prime and hi temp red paint on mine about a year ago and they are still bright red(when they're free of brake dust).
