True LED american made 4x6 headlights

Yes they are expensive, but an alternative to doing the HID projector swap maybe?

Re: True LED american made 4x6 headlights

The prices on those have come down a bunch! When they were introduced a few years back the pair was almost $1800! I first saw these being used in the trucking industry. I can see why truckers have been willing to spend the extra money on these I am very impressed with the light output on those.

These...

Use them on the outside, and put 4x6 air ducts for brakes or turbo, or something sweet on the inner lights

Pretty cool. I like the look on those, but the pricetag is scary. I used to have a 4th gen and in pursuit of better lighting i removed the sealed bulbs, fabbed up a bracket, and mounted some similarly sized PIAA bulbs. It cost me about the same as ONE of the above lights and it caught a lot of attention.

Yep, and you can't help to think they will continue to go down now that LED lighting is becoming the new norm. I thought about doing a HID retro fit on my car but I think I'm gonna wait and see what happens with LED's because I'd prefer them over HID's

I actually contemplated it too. My dad runs a trucking company and I had Chrome Country truck parts supply willing to give a pretty deep discount to buy a couple sets. I had just found out about I was gonna be a daddy, so didn't seem like a good time throw anything on a credit card. These are cheaper now than any discount they were gonna give!

Keep me in the loop. Maybe we could get a group buy organized?

LED headlights are amazing. I love them. That's actually about half as much for the 5.25" round LED headights I found for my e30. However, the lumen output seems low? Are LEDs looked upon/measured differently than typical capsule headlights? (HID/Halogen/Incandescent) A regular D2S puts out between 2400-3000 lumens and that says effective lumen output 750-850?

After you said something the Lumens are low, but maybe they are actually being measured in a DOT compliant manor? as other may not be as a lot of HID upgrade kits are not DOT? Good thought. I do know of what I have seen with comparo pics and videos... These things look great!

I'd consider it, but the website doesn't have a lot of pictures to properly evaluate the casing.

I'm interested in the 8800H/L headlamps but they don't have a price... at least not from what I can tell. Their website is kinda crappy.

I agreed completely. Interesting product, but not a very well organized website to gather information. Seems more flashy that substance.

Re: True LED american made 4x6 headlights

This is from the TLG website regarding the 8800:

"The low beam LED lights replaces H4656 headlights
The high beam LED light replaces H4651 headlights"

Still curious about the 8800H/L and if they'll fit the firebird bezel.

Compare the measurements with a sealed beam headlamp.

http://www.jwspeaker.com/products/he...-low-headlight

Edit: On second thought, they won't fit Firebirds. They're sized for a hi/lo-hi headlight system, not the hi/lo headlight system that Firebirds have.

Re: True LED american made 4x6 headlights

Those ones mentioned above are their hi-beam, and lo-beam setups which is what the Camaros have. They do have a Hi/Lo-beam in their catalog, but I cannot seem to find it anywhere else. I suspect that it might be a canidate for the firebird setup (i.e. the 4666). I sent them an e-mail asking for more info.

Subscribed. If they have something for the Firebird bezel with hi/lo beam that is a direct bolt in, I will buy a set definitely.

1300 raw, 850/750 (hi/lo)Effective (actual) lumens @ 45w Vs 3200 Lumen for a typical HID 35w, meh.850 is around your typical halogen lumen rating.

Re: True LED american made 4x6 headlights

I got a reply back from the people at TLG Auto. This is what they had to say about the 8800H/L lights and their applicability to Firebirds:

"Great question! JW Speaker has three 4×6″ LED headlights: The #8800L (Low Beam Only), #8800H (High Beam Only) and the 8800 H/L (High and Low Beam). About the 8800 H/L, you can see the specification sheet here: http://www.jwspeaker.com/products/he...-low-headlight

The problem with 8800 H/L is that it is roughly the 4×6″ shape, but it’s not made to be a drop-in replacement for sealed beam headlights in passenger cars. Firstly, it is about 4.5″ x 6.6″, which may not fit some 4×6 openings. Secondly, it is 4″ deep with no tapering on the back side – it’s totally square in the back – which means you’d have to modify the headlight fixture of almost any car to make this fit. Lastly, the 8800 H/L has 3 cast mounting tabs on the outside frame of the light because it’s designed to be flush-mounted on a flat surface in industrial or universal applications.

What it comes down to is that “Yes” JW Speaker does have a 4×6 high/low LED headlight, but it’s not designed to be used as a replacement headlight for passenger vehicles. You could theoretically use the JW 8800 H/L in a car with 4×6 headlights, but you would need to modify both the headlight AND the housing on the car that holds it in place.

If you want a drop-in LED 4x6 headlight that does both high beam and low beam I suggest this headlight:http://www.tlg-auto.com/GTR_4x6_LED_...0003.htmThanks for your additional questions! Please let me know if you have more.

The GTR lights he references at end of his message are about a $100 cheaper for a pair than the other LED lights are for just one.

I must agree that I am disappointed at the whole thing. I was pretty interested in getting those LED headlights. Oh well, back to Silverstars until something better comes up.

Glad I came across this post. I saw these in a booklet somewhere and was going to research into getting them. Guess it is a no-go.

Another year and someone will have one for cars.

Guys, I am all for upgrades and personalizing your ride but $1600 for LIGHTS?!?!?!
I'll stick with my $20 Silvanias from Pepboys... I can buy a shortblock for $1600...!! Or a COMPLETE leather interior, carpet and Dynamat, or a set of wheels AND tires, or a good paintjob, or a killer sound system, or...

With as clean as your car is, I demand you get updated lighting. However I would like to see a setup on yours similar to what is done on some import 240s like a lazy eye, so the whole headlamp doesn't flip up and ruin lines. Or maybe a exposed headlight like a new vette or like the c5s are doing to theirs?

Or maybe a exposed headlight like a new vette or like the c5s are doing to theirs?
Don't worry, mine are upgraded. I did a bixenon HID swap a bit ago using retrofitsource's tiny morimoto projectors. And actually, I chopped a bit of the bracket up to prevent it from opening all the way (and correct the angle of the lens assembly). When a bird's lights are up, especially a 91-92 car, there is SO much unused space. I don't have any sort of bezel around the whole thing like factory but eventually I'll get time to finish that. Probably after I get the car tuned and back on the road.

Re: True LED american made 4x6 headlights

So if one was to get these LED headlights the normal high beam lights on our cars would just sit there useless? Kinda gay. I would like it better if they had a version that incorporated the dual-style headlights

Well there's nothing stopping you from leaving the high beams hooked up, they'd just be horrendously different colors and brightness...

Not really, there is a model for high and a model for high. If you got all 4 you would not really notice. I don't see the need for a dual beam on the camaros. It would be difficult for one because of, what would be filament placement, and two correct aiming. If you watch the video, the low beams shine very far and pair that with high beams there would be not a big advantage at that point to have dual in middle unless you want to spotlight someone off the road.

Subscribed in the hope they'll come out with an HID option for Firebirds!

Took years to slim down HID systems for automotive applications.Probably be a while for LED tech to catch up to HID lighting. It barely matches halogen currently.

Not sure I've seen people on here assemble their own lights similar to that guys though.

Perhaps you could give a pair away in exchange for a review by one of the members?

Or just become a vendor...> Either way if you got a good product and the price is right hopefully the sales will follow

Thank you for the advice I will most likely try one or both of those options.

Re: True LED american made 4x6 headlights

Bumping this back up. Truck lite has come up with the best (in my opinion) true LED 4x6 replacement. They are due out at the end of this month too! I tried to confirm pricing on these from Truck lite, but they wouldn't give it to me because I am not a dealer. I did find a couple sites that are listing them for between 165-200. There is a low beam light and separate high beam light. Pretty excited to see these.

Looks very interesting. Wish they'd have a H/L kit to replace the 4666 bulbs.

Re: True LED american made 4x6 headlights

List is $258 per light. I don't want to post dealer pricing since some of the site sponsors might start carrying these. But I would think you should be able to pick them up for about half that or maybe a bit less. Still pricey, but not as bad as before. They have an interesting look, I'm curious to see them on a thirdgen. I'm running the trucklight 4x6 glass housing with a 9007 bulb right now, they make good stuff.

LOL...that's a different light you linked. The 4x6 was just announced a couple months ago and will be released end of June/early July.
