Got 90 Bird... Which Parts 2 My 91 RS??
Got 90 Bird... Which Parts 2 My 91 RS??
I know I'm putting both manual doors onto my 91 RS... Also, I'm taking out all the non-broken plastic interior pieces... painting them black and putting them in my car. The coolant tank and washer fluid tanks are clean so I'm gonna switch them over too. Is there anything else I can switch to my RS? I'm parting out everything else I don't use from it. Has anyone ever thought about switching the rear bumper/ground effects from a bird to a camaro?? I know then I would have two license plate spots and I would have to fill in the PONTIAC logo on the back but is it worth it? And what could I do with the other license plate spot??

Also, I'm taking out all the non-broken plastic interior pieces... painting them black and putting them in my car.
Keep in mind they will chip and flake if you don't prep the plastic correctly and use the right type paint for the plastic

I don't know if you're concerned about originality or accuracy, but the washer tank is different as the Firebirds have a recess for the cruise control servo. I'm not sure about the overflow tank, but a quick look should reveal any differences. Also new tanks are less than $20 each at the dealerships.
Is there anything else I can switch to my RS?
While many parts will swap from a Firebird to a Camaro, the only ones that will be correct for the car are rather small. Most of the interior plastic is identical, seat belts, pedal pads, hardware, various parts under the hood, exhaust, driveline, and the doors.
I'm parting out everything else I don't use from it. Has anyone ever thought about switching the rear bumper/ground effects from a bird to a camaro??
I've thought about it, a long time ago. If the cars a base model you'd be swapping on bumperettes that most Firebird owners don't even like. Also the front bumper probably (almost positively) won't bolt up or fit correctly to the camaro fenders.
I know then I would have two license plate spots and I would have to fill in the PONTIAC logo on the back but is it worth it?
I wouldn't say its worth it unless the stock parts on your car are completely trashed and you can't afford the correct parts, and even then I'd suggest holding out for the right pieces.
And what could I do with the other license plate spot??
solid taillight covers from left to right would cover the stock license mounting, but you'd have to rewire the license plate light, and it'd be more trouble to open the trunk. Not to mention if you don't like taillight covers, or if your local PD doesn't like them.
