Re: Do You Have Any Other Dream Cars?
I love 3rd Gen's and always want a few, but my all time dream car is a 1969 Dodge Charger R/T. There are a few others I would love to have as well.
68-72 Nova 2 door. I had a 72 Last year and miss it everyday.
GNX
78 Z28 T-top 4-speed.
72 Torino sport roof.

Re: Do You Have Any Other Dream Cars?
I have been lucky as I have had driven or ridden in the following:

Z06 - (Driven)
1990 Trastarossa (Ridden) OMG!
Nissan GTR (Ridden) OMG!
BMW 330ci (Driven)
BMW 328 vert (Driven)
New GTO (Driven)
Viper Coupe (Ridden)
67 Vette convert 327 4 speed Side Pipes (Driven)
1957 Chevy 210 328 Powerglide 70K miles (Owned)
1973 Corvette Coupe (Driven)

I wish I could have a GTR or the Testarossa. Countach would be nice too.
actually you can buy a 80s Testarossa for around 40-70K with low miles but the maint. will kill you.

Re: Do You Have Any Other Dream Cars?
might not be much of a dream to most people but when i was 15 i told my dad i was gonna get me a 1986 Monte Carlo SS Aerocoupe, wich was going to be hard to since there was only 200 of them made. Fast forward over the years i had already owned about 5 or 6 regular SS montes and the last being an 87 aerocoupe I stumbled across a pristene 86 aerocoupe that an older guy had in his collection of vetts and stuff needing to thin out the herd and here she sits now, had it since 1999. #65 of 200 and 13k miles and change.

it is a 928 porsche in scarface and risky business-i have a 1981 928 not really all that fast with it's 220hp 4.5l SOHC v8(my z28 will run away from it)Also chassis not overly rigid-something we are used to with our thirds...The 928 engine sound in risky business is authentic

Well, outside the world of third gen cars, I would like to have a Ford GT40 with twin turbos.

I'll never be able to afford one, I'd be happy just to be able to drive one a time or two.

Here are my two dream cars from when I was almost 16 and really noticing new cars at the dealerships. Now both are in my garage. Kinda cool hearing several other members listing the monte as one of their "dream cars". My true out of reach dream car would have to be a 69 Yenko Camaro, but on the more realistic side of that a 69 camaro with RS hideaway headlights would be #1 on my list.

I like the Monte Carlos too, they just have the classic look about them... there's a guy around here with a white SS and it has a 502, that thing sounds nasty, he gives it hell too.

1st gen GTOs are killer, and I like the 67' Chevelle.

I hope to make the 67'-68' Firebird 400 and the 85'-88' Monte Carlo SS a reality someday, but that won't happen for a LONNNGGGG while...

Interesting. I was a tech at a Chrysler dealer for a little over 5 years and I HATED those mitsubitchy 3.0L V6s and loved the 2.2/2.5L engines. The turbo cars had way more hp and torque too. Not to mention a lot more accepting of mods. One benefit with the 3.0 is that it'll rustproof the bottom of the car as you drive ; )

Re: Do You Have Any Other Dream Cars?
Any nice performance model or special edition Pontiac, the most notable being the '88 Fiero GT, the GTO Judge, and the second gen Trans Am. The '88 Fiero was a bad little dude with the 5 speed and 2.8, and it had Lotus designed suspension which made it flat wicked at autocrosses. The Judge is THE muscle car in my mind. And to me, the second gen Trans Am represents classic American definition of "cool," something that has fallen by the wayside in the current era of complicated society and soulless, cheaply manufactured, high-tech crap. The lines and every little detail were pure artwork. If Fonzie were a car, he'd be a 1973 Brewster Green Trans Am with the 455. And there is nothing cooler than the 77-78 "Bandit" cars.

And I like some rice with my chicken
1984-87 Corolla GT-S/ AE86

A little over 1 ton, they rev to the moon and they just rip through corners. Plus unless you're on the west coast you're lucky to see one in a whole year. I'd LOVE a clean hatch.

Chuki 240SX coupes ('Onevia' for those not stateside) are just too sweet when done up right and supposedly you can drive one at almost a 90* angle all day without breaking a sweat. I'd take mine with an LS swap though.

------------------
Thirdgens are still king in my book though. Tons of soul, cool as hell when done up properly, they'll rip through corners as well as anything with some good shocks and SFC's, they're easycake to control when they're sideways (You can drift one into a parking spot just fine, lol...) AND of course, dat. v8.

Re: Do You Have Any Other Dream Cars?
Quote: I never much cared for the K cars. Why did the 4 bangers always have a knock?
That was just to let you know the engine was broken in. Honestly, the neons had much more knock. I think there was a little exess piston to wall clearance. Two years befor I got rid of my neon the knock was so bad a homless guy told me I needed a new engine when I was warming it up befor leaving work one day. The last year I had it I was trying to grenade the 2.0 (was going to swap in a 2.4). It went without oil changes. Only topping it up with 75w140 gear oil. It made four passes at the dragstrip, twice doing a one wheel peel through 1st and 2nd (4000rpm dump on snow tyres). Never shifted out of 1st or second below 5500rpm. And so on. I ended up buying another car because it started to rust in the quarter panles but it still ran well enough to do a nice big burnout befor it went to the scrapyard. And the k car engines are tougher.

It's a preference... Didn't really notice on the 3.0, but I do know that the 2.2/2.5 are WAY too close to the ground for my tastes. I had to fix 2 holes in the oil pan on a family member's 2.5 because that stupid pan was so close to the ground that gravel would come up and hit it (didn't help it was rusted). Not to mention the crappy TBI system that has way too many things regulating the fuel pressure. That same car never ran right when the engine was replaced (engine lost all oil through those 2 tiny little gravel holes and spun the #3 rod bearing... she INSISTED on replacing the engine) until I de-gummed the FPR. I was hoping against hope that the stupid "shuttle valve" under the FPR wasn't also sticking. Ticked me off when she decided to trade that gas-guzzling POS (seriously, 180 miles on 10 gallons of gas!) in on another gas-guzzling POS after I dropped nearly $3000 worth of work into it . Seriously, couldn't Chrysler design a torque converter that matched up to the flexplate in ANY clock position? Took me an hour to get that thing lined up! I'd get it lined up, and only a couple bolts would go in... Nope. Got to take the bolts back out and spin the TC another 90 degrees... .

Besides, I can't imagine the 3.0 valve covers sealing any worse than the ones on the 4-cylinders. Stupid thing still leaked after I resealed it with RTV 3 times on the 2.5 (the one that was factory to the car and was replaced). And the replacement engine was just as caked with oil from the valve cover. Along with the oil pans on both... Both of those leaked as well.

Only thing I hated about the 3.0 in the Daytona I had for a while was the fact that the valve guides or seals needed work... I never got to install the head set I bought for it (and still have, ironically, if I haven't finally chucked it yet). That thing was like the old cold SBC adage... Every time it started it had that blue cloud. Oh, and the stupid A/C compressor squealed (A/C didn't work), so I took the belt off. Nice of Chrysler to use a second belt just for the A/C on top of the serpentine belt.

Seems to me, with Chrysler, it either leaks or it leaks worse. Although, I would gladly dump the factory ECU for a MegaSquirt or similar. I can't believe they actually sell kits to fix those things because they fail so often...

This is as bad as people trying to make 1970 Trans Ams out of new Camaros. Or bandit t/as out of new Camaro's. The roofline on both cars ruins it as it does not match the original.

Make a 69 trans am out of a new Camaro and a CUDA out of a challenger. That will work AND look good as it matches the original chassis.
