Another Engine Bay Clean-up Thread

Well I have done some work on this when I removed the ECM and AIR equipment from my Carb'd engine. I used some things that were sitting around the garage to keep some of the costs down but now I'm looking at making things look a little better. Here are my plans.

Remove the old Moroso spark plug wire retainers that bolt to the side of the valve covers and causes them to be routed on top of the valve covers.

Add new Moroso spark plug wires looms that run the wires along the sides of the valve cover and out of the way

Replace the MSD wires with new custom trim to length set to be able to use the new wire loom.

Remove the starter wires from going along the top of the motor on the passenger side, down the front and to the starter and reroute them down the back side of the motor (like 1st gen and 2nd gens) and trim them to length.

I also used some Eastwood header coating stuff that I'm not too impressed with so I'm going to strip the headers and re-coat them with something else.

I'll add some pics later of the way it sits now and then as I fix things.

I've already done that with my accessory brackets. I've had my motor out twice now. Once to clean it up, add a new cam, gaskets and balancer and paint it and once to clean the k-member and paint it.

Re: Another Engine Bay Clean-up Thread

Well weather was nice Friday so I messed around with my T/A for a little bit. I removed the plug wires and I also decided I didn't like how the wiring for the dash temperature gauge, A/C compressor and power steering is routed so I started to pull it all out of the wire loom material.

I'm going to pull it out till it reaches the brake booster and then routed it down to the frame rail and out. Then I'll feed just the temp and A/C lines across to the motor cleaning up the top surface of the valve cover.

Re: Another Engine Bay Clean-up Thread

Like most things I get started on, a simple wire clean up turned into cleaning up more stuff.

I removed the headers and stripped off the poor Eastwood coating I had on them. They were suppose to look silver instead they were light grey. Found some header paint from VHT and it is suppose to be good to 1200*F. The spray finish is flat black an it looks better than what it use to be. I have to bake cycle them to finish it up.

Got all the starter wires ran behind the motor instead of going across the top. Got the MSD black wires ran through the new looms and cut to length. Shortened the throttle cable bracket so the cruise control cable line up properly and I have better adjustment on the TV cable now as well.

Went to start the motor last night and found out that my Denso, Hi-torque, mini-starter isn't lining up like it did when I took it off 2-3 years ago. I need to get a shim kit and I should be good to go.

Since I was buying more stuff I also got a new air cleaner **** for my chrome air cleaner. The old one was just a zinc plated wing nut and just didn't look right. I got a spinner style nut with the "GM" logo on it. Don't get me wrong I love my Bowtie's, I own 3 Chevy's. I just don't want them on my T/A and that was the only other option without getting too expensive.

I'll have to post up a couple of pics once I'm done here in a few days.
