Valve covers
Re: Valve covers
wow all those valve covers look great.
Abubaca, i'm not sure why they used magnesium either, i know they're super light, maybe that has something to do with it. they arent' any more difficult to polish than aluminum, but it would appear to get them flawless, the casting was much more difficult to do.

If you can find some of these that would fit the engine, it would be pretty sweet!!

Re: Valve covers
The use of Magnesium was probably just to be "exotic." They looked good when new, but the finish didn't hold-up, and their appearance became a maintenance issue. Even polished, if not clear-coated, the finish would most-likely fade.
A few years ago I searched for the LT4 Corvette's black composite valve covers, and I found that they are being reproduced in the aftermarket, so brand new ones are available. I don't remember the name of the company offering them, but I'm sure they'd turn-up in a web search.
During that search, I found these cast aluminum valve covers by PML. I think these are very nice! And they're available in a variety of ways.

Re: Valve covers
if i get anything with wording on it, it'll have to be pontiac just to match up with everything. I've seen those, but i passed on them cuz they look too similar to the stock ones

Re: Valve covers
I personally hate stamped valve covers. They always look like corrugated roofing to me. I prefer any sort of cast or composite covers, including those magnesium corvette covers.

I need to repolish/clean them... but even dirty they look fine to me.
