I am in need of an extreme deep cleaning/refinishing of my wheels.

They have sat on the car in a garage for a decade now. Inside the spokes are covered in a thick layer of brake dust, the red color from the factory is faded to a pink, and the spokes have what appears to be spots of mildew.

What would you guys recommend? I am not worried about keeping the red colors as I am going to replace the wheels once I get some extra funds. They are just in desperate need of cleaning...

Big difference between a good cleaning and refinishing. LOT more time involved with refinishing. How long do you think you're gonna use the wheels? I can't imagine refinishing wheels that you're simply going to replace.

I would probably stick to a good cleaning. I was thinking I would plasti dip them after they were cleaned a bit.

Definitely NOT a fan of plasti-dip. You can see it a mile away and it looks like...well...plasti-dip.

...if they need refinishing (at some point) anyway...cleaning is easy because you don't have to worry about damaging them too much. I would think some good elbow grease, with soap and water would do the trick.

Yeah I was on the fence about plasti dip, and saw quite a few cats that look pretty good (haven't seen em close up).

I'll put some elbow grease on it again and see what comes of it.

I say clean the heck out of em and let it ride.

....if the pink gets to ya, the red accents shouldn't be hard to tape off and spray. Again, being that they already NEED refinishing, I wouldn't worry about a quick, low hanging fruit spray bomb on the red accents.

For me, the plasti-dip looks cheap and quick. Of course, it IS!!!!! ...but I just can't get on board.
