I'm asking for opinions/suggestions on what to do to make my engine look better. I've got s chrome oil pan and timing cover. Also I have a new intake and valve covers. Can the distributor be painted? Any suggestions would be appreciated. The engine is a 350 from a z28.

 

Get rid of that Streetmaster intake manifold.
It's a real old-school single plane.
It's operating range is only from 1000-4500 rpm.
Yes, you can paint the base part of the distributor that shows.
Add a new cap & rotor. And a new thermostat housing.
You will not see the chrome timing cover or oil pan in the car.
Put a nice set of valve covers and air cleaner on it.

 

Paint the linkage brackets.

 

Depends how much money you have really. I think Professional Products makes a good looking and inexpensive and decent performing line of polished SBC carb'd intakes. If you can't buy a new intake then have your existing intake blasted (prefereable to spending an hour two sanding it with tiny pieces of paper) and paint it in a single stage. Alternatively you could buy some of Eastwood's natural aluminum paint which looks really good.
Definitely try to find some new linkage. Skip painting the distributor base since the cap is so big you won't really see it. You can get aluminum valve covers from ebay for pretty cheap and aluminum won't warp or bend like stamped steel. You can get chrome or polished water necks cheap too. If you need new plug wires grab a set of your favorite color and a nice spark plug wire loom for them.
