What did you name YOUR thirdgen?
I'm using the word "detailing" liberally here
. However, a good name is certainly an important detail. I'm sixteen, and thus need a good name for my thirdgen. I've got a couple ideas, but I'd like to hear from YOU guys (and gals) on the topic.

Christine!
My red Sport Coupe who looked ready for the junkyard before I brought her back to life. I loved the movie, and out of nowhere when I got home from looking at her I had left the TV on and it was on TV! I decided it was meant to be and bought her the next day...on Halloween!

I usually refer to mine by color - the white car, the red car, blue convertible....my pure-stock GT-37 is referred to by my friends as Mr. White.

Re: What did you name YOUR thirdgen?
I've owned my car for almost 20 years, and at some point I kinda dubbed it "The Pet Roc", however I don't ever refer to it as that. It's just the car, lol. My Trailblazer which I DD has some work done to it as well, lift, tires, etc. etc. and it's just "the truck". ...ironically, my wife's Avalon, with NO aftermarket parts whatsoever is the only one with any sort of name. I just call it "the Yote". It's an old workhorse. It's an 05, and actually a really great car.

I call my car by different names depending on what I am doing to it and what it is doing to me.

Re: What did you name YOUR thirdgen?
Okay, both of these might sound just a little cheesy, lol...IF I keep my 91, and IF it's as fast as I hope it will be, she'll be the Black Widow. Hoping for an 11 second daily driver to hang with today's modern muscle. I know, not very original. The IROC on the other hand... To reference one of my favorite movies, Eleanor. Why? The mystical creature always chased. The 10 second, stock appearing, IROC I've wanted for 30 years, and is almost within reach

I'm with Tootie Pang, depends on what's broken and what's not and what's I'm doing to her or what she's doing to me on what her name is in that particular moment. Here lately she's been called the Blackbird......But she's also been acting right.

Haha, good point. I decided I'd do a female name (guess I'm a little old-fashioned). I made a list, and had twenty-something names. I took a couple hours, and narrowed it down. After much deliberation, my 88 GTA is named Gwendolyn. I like it!

Alas, Gwendolyn isn't 'mine' as such just yet. She's mine, I just have to pay for her. I got a good deal, and the seller is my pastor, so she isn't going anywhere while I save. She's a Candy Apple Red Metallic hardtop with digital dash. Make no mistake, she's a project, but TLC is a joy! I'll make sure to get pics up as soon as I can, though!

Re: What did you name YOUR thirdgen?
Mine was/is a project, she actually sit in a field for 10 years. In about 7 months I've done alot and drive her daily now. Start out with a list of achievable goals and knock em out one at a time. You will have so much appreciation and joy when you get rolling good. My best friend is the youth minister at my church and I help him out with our youth alot and he is actually the one that talked me into a third gen. I've wanted a GTA since they came out in 87.....I was only 8 at the time but I was raised by a gear head and knew they was indeed a special car then. Well 30 years later my child hood dream came true. This is the right place to help you with anything you need to know or simply a great place to get ideas. Everyone I've talked with so far on her have gone above and beyond. Purely PMD seems like a book of knowledge on our cars. I'm pretty sure he could probably tell you every option our cars could come with. Bunch of great folks around here. Don't hesitate to ask.

I didn't name mine... my Wife did. She thought my '88 convertible should be called "Black Betty" because I am always spending time with her and trying to get her top down!

Re: What did you name YOUR thirdgen?
Some of you have mentioned calling the car by the color. That doesnt work when you have 3 white 3rd gens in the garage, soooo I call them by type, the Formula, the TTA, the Mecham, and the 4th gen is just "the blue car". lol

I'm with the other guys, your car WILL take on different names when something breaks, I usually just throw another word or two in front of "Christine"
Good luck with Gwendolyn! Can't wait to see her 'u'

Mine's not exactly politically correct!
My Trans Am is named "Lola", after The Kinks song. The song's about a trans woman, so it suits the Trans Am!

Hi there,
I call mine Project Cheap Skate, because I got it pretty cheap, and it's just a fun little V6 skateboard.
Here is a pic, and another one with my daughter in front of Cheap Skate at a car show.

Re: What did you name YOUR thirdgen?
After all the engine trouble I had in the beginning, where I quickly learned to memorize my Engine code "F" as an acronym for "F*** you!" and LB9 as short for LEMME BE! I just recently decided to refer to the car as The Great White.

Code Name: I.L.M.O.D.C. (pronounced “IL-Maude”)
Short story short. My mom passed away when I was 15 years old. She loved Trans Ams (and fast cars in general). She had an opportunity to drive her brother in laws Bandit era 2nd gen for a few months and loved it.
Being the mid-80s, the 3rd gens were in force roaming the streets. I of course loved Knight Rider as a kid so naturally I had love for the 3rd gens (more so the crime fighting ones that talked and turbo boosted). We’d stop guys filling up there Trans Am (and Camaro’s) all the time at the gas station or where ever we’d see em and strike up conversations. Car guys with these cars back there were never shy about talking about their cars. She was in the midst saving up for a late model 3rd gen when she passed away from ovarian cancer. She never got her 3rd gen.
When I turned 18 I got my 1987 Trans Am. It was dark blue and had silver ground effects. In sort of a dedication I named the car ILMODC.

Kind of a throw back to K.I.T.T. Anyhow, car has been with me over the years. I put bout 45K on that car the first year I had her. Ol’ 700R4 went out and the car was parked for about 12+ years. Never really had any money to put into the car (life, marriage, kids, divorce, now remarried). Got the car driving a few years go and she’s been down again for the last 5 years after a blown head gasket took us out.
We are toward the end of an LS swap and almost back on the road.
Here’s some vids of the car in action with my car club. We did a rustoleum paint job too (of course had to make a video of that too). That was fun. I’m remarried and fortunately I have a very supportive wife whom has let me keep the car and continue my hobby.
Thanks for listening….

I love the name ILMODC! It's exactly what a name IS, a meaningful expression of personal affection and identity! My personal favorite on this thread so far! Thanks for sharing your story, ILMODC.
