TailLight blackouts

I am sure it has been posted here before, but how do you do it? Is it a new lens you bought for your car or did you modify your exsisting lenses?

Thanks.

Its called translucent paint, and you can get it from any hobby shop in spray form. I thought there was a tech article on this somewhere. Somebody help me out here.

I'd use aftermarket blackout covers from a company like gts.
Just my opinion, but I think they look cleaner, and if you get tired of the look, you dont have to buy new tail lights. (I don't think that transparent paint is washable...could be wrong though.)

With a few coats of clear, it should be washable/waxable. I've also heard paintin the lense from the inside instead - so it stays clean.

Whew! You're way off. I think he is talking about the Covers from GTS and what not. You can't get the black VHT night shade paint from a hobby store, just translucent red if you wanna do soild reds, which is where i think you are getting your info from on painting the tail lights.

I think youcrash was talking about GTS blackouts:

1. GTS taillight blackouts attach to the taillights with 2sided tape.

2. You can also paint taillights, turnsignals, and sidemarkers with "spray tint", I think its called nite shade.

3. You can paint the taillights with transloucent red paint (from a hobby store) if you want your taillights all red.

all of the above have been discussed on the boards with pictures of each kind...you just need to take some time to find them.

I got Auto Ventshade Systems' Blackouts for christmas, they look great (just like the GTS ones)
Anyone have pics of tinted tailights?? I think the cool thing about GTS, or AVS blackouts is the smooth surface. How does it look with the divisions visable

Here are mine. I painted them with black paint and clear.

I think they look better than the GTS....and mine look stock.

i did mine with vht nightshades and it looks identical to mr. iroc's. im a little worried about the local authorities, but then again, ive seen many stock tailights on other cars that have tinted brakelights (80's t-birds for instance). i ordered the vht from summit yesterday morning and i had it in my hands this afternoon and on my tailights just minutes afterwards. it looks really good and its easy to apply.

That looks good un4givin, its how I plan on doing it to mine in the spring. I don't like the nightshade stuff, in my opinion it makes the taillights looks filthy.

This isn't the best picture of mine, the lighting didn't seem to be very good. I took off the GTS lettering on mine, too.

I have heard that when its day light the brake and other lights won't shine through very well if at all... is this true?
How hard was installation and where did you order or buy them from? (meaning the covers).

Thanks.

You can get them at pep boys or autozone or order them online even find them on ebay. Sometimes they dont' shine as bright, but you can see them just fine durning the day time.

Just to inform anyone who doesn't know, but GTS is no longer in business... they were the best brand out there, so it sucks that they are gone because I was planning on ordering a set of blackouts.

I did come across another company (can't think of the name right now), that produces identical black outs that I am going to go with...

I don't like the spray on stuff because it leaves the ridges and lines from the tail light design showing.... I like the flat surface look that the covers provide.

Black outs really draw attention and look great, especially on the 3rdGen Camaro!

Nice look Unforgivin, can that paint job on the brake lights withstand fading from washing the car and the weather. I would hate to have it fade on me.

Well, there aren't any Pep Boys in my area to buy the covers from so unless anyone knows of a website I can buy them from, I tried Pep Boys' website with no luck. If anyone would be kind enough to purchase a set of the black out covers for me, I would be more then happy to repay them and give a little more. Drop me an email at youcrash01@yahoo.com if you are interested.

Thanks.

Yep. I just heard from my stepdad's friend, who owns an appeance shop, that GTS lost a law suit and was forced out of buisness. That's too bad, now they are going to be hard as heck to find and I was planning on putting them on my ride after it got out of the body shop on the 25th!!!

Summitracing.com had the blackouts for 4th gen but not for 3rd gen from what I saw on their online catalog.

http://www.autostyles.com/blackout.htm is a link to where you can get blackouts for almost any style of car.
