Anybody ever use acid on rims?
Anybody ever use acid on rims?
Im looking for someone who can tell me something about using acid on rims. I could get some from my brother who works at a car dealership, but I dont know if this will hurt my stock textured aluminum rims.
I've got a lot of brake dust corrosion and it's either sand it down or use acid. Any thoughts?

Use Aircraft Stripper... obtained at a local hardware store/ Wal-Mart.
Clean the brake dust off with brillow, spray on the stripper as per directions, or untill all the clear coat is gone, polish the hell outa the bare aluminum, and re clear coat em! That is the safest method of doin it!
Good Luck.

When I werked as a detailer I used to use it under my hood. It works really well on raw aluminum, if the aluminum was polished you might wanna stay away from it. Whenever it touched raw aluminum it would foam up, then powerwash it off, or just hose it down, and stuff would come out mint
I have seen acid used in the heavy equipement field on our alum wheels. Cleans them good once or twice, but within a year or less it well eat away the finish.
