85 IROC Decal question
I am finishing up on an 85 IROC that we purchased from the original owner. When he bought the car new he took the stripes off because he didn't like them. At the same time though he bought a GM stripe kit from the dealership just in case he ever wanted to add them back.
I plan on installing these decals.
Question is if they are installed 'wet' or 'dry'? Again these are GM OEM decals. If wet then what is the best solution to mix up for the application?
Thanks for any info.

Always install wet. They are very tacky, and if you do it dry, they will be hard to move if placed incorrectly. I use a small spray bottle (6oz-8oz) with a few drops of Dawn liquid.

Re: 85 IROC Decal question

We use a product called Right On (might be spelled Rite On) at our body shop for decal application. But the dish soap and water mixture in a spray bottle works just as good. Also, get a squeegee to work out any air bubbles before you remove the transfer tape.
Re: 85 IROC Decal question
Do NOT use those decals! The adhesive is good for about 5 years shelf life. You will put a lot of time and effort into installing these NOS decals and they will start peeling up in days. You're about 30 years past their "use by" date.

I agree with Scott. I don't think they'll work for you long term. Graphics definitely have a "use by" date. Can't speak for GM, but the stuff we use at our shop is only a few years unused. Heck it lasts longer applied than it does on a roll!
...as for fluid, Dagwood is correct. Rite on! Pun intended. ...or Rapid Tac, or any decal application fluid. The issue with using dish soap is that with too little soap, they can still be a little tricky to move and glide over the surface into position. With too MUCH soap, the graphics can potentially never set up properly. Does soap and water work? Yes. But for a few bucks just buy some application fluid.

Thanks '@Abubaca' for the info. Since I have the decals I will probably still see how they do. I realize it may be a waste of time. I will be able to tell better after I do the first stripe hopefully.
Also thanks for the reasoning to get the Rapid-Tac as opposed to guessing on the right ratio of dawn soap to water.
You live pretty close to me. I'm in Clemmons. Probably have talked to you at some of the local cruise-ins...

Oh yeah, you ARE pretty close! Nice! ....yeah, I used to hit up most of the local events with my 89. The current 88 isn't really "ready" yet, but hopefully soon! Currently undergoing a major transformation!
