Thank you for the nomination, it really means a lot. I've owned this 89 IROC for nearly 3 years now, after purchasing it on a whim surfing craigslist. It was a basically stock 305/t5 combo when I bought it, with the goal of having a nice all around street car. Things kinda snowballed from there.... After purchasing it, I quickly built a 383 for it, installed a fabricated 9" rear, and swapped out the t5 for a t56 magnum. Drove it like that until May of 2020 where, again on a whim, I decided to add twin turbos, new wheels and new suspension, with the goal of keeping it a 100% street car, with AC, that could drive anywhere and be comfortable doing autocross as well as on the drag strip. Build was just 'finished' at the end of last month. I'm still doing some tinkering, but driving it as much as possible. You can follow along with the whole build thread here, as there's way too much to list without boring the audience https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/memb...ject-89-a.html
The engine is a late model 4 bolt main L31 block, Eagle forged crank and rods, with Mahle forged pistons. Compression is 10.58:1. Cylinder heads are AFR 195 eliminators, Comp xfi292 cam, topped off with a mini ram intake. It has an efi connection 24x setup, which allows me to run a fitech ultimate LS ecu. Turbos are VS racing 61/62 billet wheel, and the whole turbo setup is a heavily modified cx racing kit. Exhaust is a mixture of my own y-pipe, dual 3" into a single 4" merge collector, following factory routing, eventually mating to a mufflex 4" over axle pipe. From the axle back is also my work, with a vibrant muffler leading to the single 4" tail pipe. Wastegate pipes are routed up to the hood vents. Yes, there is a visible flame out of the vents when the gates are open... Accessory belt drive was swapped to an Eddie motorsports S drive to allow me to keep AC with the now much tighter engine bay. Cooling is accomplished with a Dewitts radiator and dual Derale fans. Currently has a Ram powergrip HD clutch, with a Ram billet flywheel. While it is performing flawlessly for now, with about 700 miles on it since the turbo swap, I plan on swapping it out for a ram twin disc setup soon. I'm not particularly chasing any power or boost numbers, but I am currently running 6.5 lbs of boost, which I anticipate to be in the 700hp (flywheel) range. I'll get it dyno'd shortly, and probably draw the line at 700 wheel hp, as I feel my stock block is the limiting factor. This winters plans will most likely involve a Dart block, as I have a 1000hp goal in my head, with room to grow beyond that.
Wheels are Rotiform 917's, 18x11, wrapped in Michelin pilot supersport 295/35 rubber. Ground control springs and Koni adjustable struts/shocks keep the tires on the road, with the aid of a Spohn torque arm, lower control arms, detroit speed front sway bar, Lares steering box, and Chassis Engineering subframe connectors. The whole thing is slowed down via Wilwood dynalite brakes front and rear. Rear end is a fabricated Burkhart chassis 9". For street use, I have a Strange iron center, with 3.25 gears, Eaton truetrac differential, and strange 31 spline axles. For drag strip us, I have an aluminum Yukon center, with 4.10 gears, spool, and Mark Williams 40 spline gun drilled axles. I'll have weld alumastar wheels and a 28x10.5 tire on it at the drag strip, likely after I swap out the clutch.
Interior is pretty simple, some 'ebay' racing seats, hawks harness bar and Corbeau belts. Dakota digital VXL gauges and a simple shift light allow me to keep an eye on things.
The car is an absolute blast to drive. Very well mannered, comfortable, and turns heads everywhere I go. I've put over 9000 trouble free miles on it, and that includes nearly one full year being under the knife.

Thank you for the nomination. I never really expected this. This car is basically a replacement for my 84 thats was totaled right after i got it painted too. The last thing it needed to be finished. Anyway, i always wanted a vert, but just didnt want two third gens. After the 84 went to the great beyondo i decided to get the vert and transfer everything from the 84 to the 89. Only the dash was not, since it was destroyed in the accident. So in a way the 84s spirit lives on. Engine is just a stock LS3 430/425 Hp/Tq, 4L65e. I wont list the rest, buts its all in my sig. I have a few pics, but i have to say im not much of a pic *****, so i dont have many pics in that regard. Whether i win or not, its a pleasure to be in the running.
