ok when i first bought my car i notice that along the hood ridge in the center that there was a little faded, like the clear coat was wearing away, and only at certain angles and certain light conditions. Over the last year ive noticed it progressing. The car is dark red and i hear that makes it susceptible to sun damage. is that what this is, what can i do to prevent it and how can i fix it thanks in advance

Sounds like your clearcoat is pretty much worn off. Not really anything you can do short of repainting. Waxing will help a little, but won't stop it, and may not even slow it down. Bright red and silver are probably the most unstable colors, but it has more to do with the (non)quality of gm's paint, and can effect any color.
