Re-finish stock wheels?
Re-finish stock wheels?
Hey. Im getting my car repainted and I was wondering if they would re-finish my wheels. Has anyone had this done? Is it worth the effort, or should I just get new wheels? I have the 91 red (turned pink) painted wheels.
Thanks, Doug

Might as well have them repaint them while you're doing it. It'd be better to use epoxy on the wheels, but since they are already red (pink) then any chips shouldn't show up too bad.
If you want to change the color, go with a bright silver, not dark grey. I think dark wheels look like **** on bright colored cars. You could do this at home, instead of paying a shop to do it. Or you could polish and clearcoat them. If you mess up (about as likely as a snowball you-know-where), it wouldn't really be a big deal as those wheels are very common and fairly cheap.

I had my wheels refinished last year by a wheel shop...$500-550. You can change the color to anything you want. I was almost tempted to use your color of wheels on my white 92...
Does anyone know where to find head-on shots of theese wheels :
2000 painted SS 10-spoke
Z06 Painted
ROH Snypers
SLPs ZR-1 Camaro SS
I would like to photoshop them to my car to see what they would look like. Any other opinions are always welcome. Thanks, Doug

My advise would be to strip the clear and repaint them yourself. My brother and I repainted his IROC wheels with some Engine Enamel from Advance. That stuff is as hard as a brick when it dries and none of it has chiped yet. Leave the clear off, it just chips off anyhow. With the paint, polish, and clear remover it should cost you about $15-20 and about 5 hours to redo them yourself.
I just scored a set of 78 snowflake wheels at the junkyard and I'm going to refinish them myself. Was looking for IROC wheels, but came across these. I like the black or graphite insert color, not the body color on the wheels. My T/A is red also and I just don't like the red on the wheels. Probably can do this yourself. Mine are basket cases and I'm gonna try. Good Luck!!
