i am getting new rims and i think the rims i have right now kinda look small... but it might be becuase my tires are so big(im getting new tires too).. does anyone have any pics w/ aftermarked 15 inch rims on their car
also, when i look at the americanracing web site, they have diffrent widths. ex: 15x7 or 15x8 or 15x10... is there any advantage to any of them? or is it just for looks? thanks
here is a pic of the rims i want to get for my car

Wider tires will handle better on dry pavement. If you are going to spend the money on new wheels though, I'd get a set of 17" or 18". No sense spending almost as much money on tiny wheels. There are reasonably priced tires out there if you aren't too picky on the brand or speed rating.

well alot depends on what your gonna do with your car if you plan on running slicks have a fun time trying to find some for 17' rims or even 16' i know they have some for 16 but they are outragous on the price.
if the car is kept on the street or you don't plan on slicks the i always think of it this way bigger is better and wider is better. just dont go to much rim and not enough tire or it will look dumb and as alot of people call it *****. i run 15x7's on mine but when i get new ones i will go either 15x8-10 on the rear and 15x7's on the front. or 16' i wouldn't suggest going any higher then that. but your car you can do whatever you please.
i can take some pics of mine if you like just let me know and they are aftermarket rims.

here are the pics of mine the car is sitting on jackstands right now iam in the middle of installing a shift kit so i cant lower it right now but the tires are 215/65R15's all the way around.and its sitting in a shed so there wasn't much room in between the car and the wall

i have seen thoses type of tri's on a camaro before there used to be a kid that had them on his blue Z-28 and they really dont look that bad on a camaro i cant say anything for the birds

yea ive seen it on a camaro before... it was in a junk yard and they were all messed up but it still looked real nice in my opinion. i think that from the side, camaros and firebirds look very very similar... and guess what the rims are on the side
and they look good on camaros, cant wait to get em on there

It came with them, but I swaped them for 90 model style. I had to drill a couple of extra holes for them.

If I knew what I know now about wheels when I bought mine I woulda gotten 17 or 18's. Mine are 16x8 welds and I kick myself in the *** for not getting bigger.

how much do you think rims like this would cost me, what do you think about them?

15's are not a waste of money it all depends on what you are doing with your car if its all show and no go well then yeah i can see throwing aways $2000.00 on a set of 18's but all you guys sit here and dog on people about there cars being rice. sorry but in my eyes if your putting on 18-20 rims thats more rice then anything. and i would like to see you guys find a set of slicks for anything higher then a 16 inch rim. see for us people that are more go the show we need the traction so thats why we stick to 15 inch rims. it all depends on what your doing with your car. but just the way i see your going to be pretty pissed off when you cant even bet a metro becuase you wanted to spend thousands of dollars on rims and tires instead of the motor. just so your car can TRY and look nice.
right now my car has no go, though i do plan on putting a 3.4L in to replace the 2.8. my theory is to make your car nice enough so it worth it to actually spend the money on the engine, you wouldnt put a 350 in a rust bucket would you, your loud engine rumble would get peoples attention and when they look to see what kind of car this is w/ such a big sounding engine they see it and say wow what a piece of crap. so i say fix it up real nice then put the engine in.
Senior Member
Isn't that a little backwards? I always thought you worked on the motor first, then you worked on the exterior/interior!
Maybe the new generation has a backward conformity?
(Make the car look fast, spend $$$ that could go into the engine and instead put it into the interior-stereo, etc?)
Priorities, I suppose.

I guess I'm getting old.

the way i see it why have a car look all nice and then have somone ask you wants under the hood? and your going to be proud to say a little 2.8??????
"Hey guys it cant run worth a **** but dam look at them rims" lmao well i tell you what i thrive on people like you cause when i pull up at a stop light and i have somone next to me and thinking they are all cool cause their car has nice rims and they think they can smoke me, just cuz their car looks nice. lol i tell you what a primed gray camaro like mine with a 406 will walk all over your firebrid with your little 2.8 and nice rims. and then we will see where you wanna start throwing your money into. Rims or Motor.
and i agree with snowdog, motor frist then looks....
i mean **** how would you like to get your butt kicked by a rust bucket that will do 10 sec. in the 1/4 i bet you will feel pretty bad man.

yeah, i am going to have to get traction somehow and they only make slicks for 15s. so i may have a set of 15's with slicks. I haven't found a 15 inch rim that i love. Maybe a TT 2 but i don't know how it would look in a 15 inch.
guys know about engines and girls dont all they see is what the car looks like, and girls are much prettier

Those rims look like Cragar's. Or the older ARE's that were made around the time the Hurricane 1's came out. They are good looking rims. I think they are Cragar's.

I think its important that your car looks good just as much as it is to be fast. People dont drive by and say "Nice car!" when it looks like a piece of trash, even if you have a blown 455 under, well sitcking out, of the hood.
Its sort of a self esteem thing. The more people that compliment your car, the more you are willing to mod it. It helps you justify spending money on it. I like to go fast and look good while doing it. Thats why I have done a few exterior mods that makes my car stand out. Its got enough power under the hood to beat most of the people on the road, and it turns heads everywhere it goes.
I say go for some new rims, but for petes sake save your money and get some 17's, you will be SO much happier.

By the way, I recommend 17's because you aren not sacrificing too much sidewall for traction. for instance, on my street tires, 275/40/ZR17, I got a 2.024 60' out of the hole. Thats better than some of the guys I know with Nittos.
Supreme Member
I want 15's because of the slick issue. My car sees more straight line runs than curves, so road handling is not as big of an issue for me. I could get taller rear tires to fill the wheelwell as good as the current 16's do, but I am concerned about the front. I don't want to lower the car, because that creates more traction issues that I don't need. I like Guido's setup. I am looking at either the Prostars, or the Drag Lites.
Member
I got an issue of Chevy High performance called HOT CAMARO TECH and it has an article in it about getting traction for camaros. It basically says that the wider the rubber the better traction you'll get so get wide wheels about 8 inch and i would probly get 17 tall.
Better traction= better 1/4 times + more street wins + better handling.

At the end of the day, examine the facts and decide what will make YOU most happy with the looks and handling of your car.
It is undoubtedly true that if you go with 15 inch rims then your choices for slicks are greatly enhanced.
17's or 18's will be great for looks, depending on your own opinion. They'll probably give you better handling through the corners also. But the tires are going to cost a lot more!
Are you planning on changing/upgrading the brakes? Remember that the bigger the rim size the bigger the brakes you can fit under them, and vice-versa.
Whatever you pick, check the weight of the wheels and tires. You don't want to go increasing the unsprung weight by too much.
Have fun!

rubber for 18s is expensive. my buddy paid bout 500 bucks a tire. but it handles like a dream. and 18s dont make it look"rice".

Something about this fanaticism about having large rims. Let's step back about say, 100 years or so. The wagon wheel was extremely efficient, but one thing you have to remember, with huge rims and no tire, you lose one factor. The way the car feels as you drive it. Maybe you enjoy feeling every little pebble you happen to drive over, and the lack of positive braking. Your poor brakes!
What is that Midas commercial again?
"A car that won't go is one thing, but a car that can't stop....?"
You get the picture.
Go back to your stock rims, drive it around for a day.
Put your 17" wheels on, drive it around for a day.
One thing you will realize is that your car is working a lot harder to move. You are gaining traction, but you are losing the control and comfort. There must be a good balance!
16 x 8's are about the largest I would go to be honest. But, hey, I guess those days when I had G60's in the front and L 60's in the rear of my Plymouth are gone too.... Even so, I had SIDEWALL! You're going to find out that those tires aren't as much fun as you think.
I think for the money, and the loss of comfort, and the way those tires are going to have the lowest sidewall imagineable...
Give me at least something between my rim and the road!
Oh! How about that center? How far off center are you from the stock rims now? 3"? Oversteer? How stable is it really? Think about how much more torque is being applied to your stock brake system!
I guess those rims are pretty! Yeah! Let's put them on!
UGH!
I'd at least get 17" at 0 offset!
Are there any? You tell me!
Everything they sell nowadays is for that inverted FWD design, I personally like the wheels with a little depth!
I don't want them sticking out beyond my fenderwell, but I don't want to look at a design meant more for a FWD too!
Look at your stock Firebird/Camaro rims! LOOK AT THEM!
Look at the offset you are going to have to do to fit that FWD rim on there!
Yuck! Talk about oversteer!
All those great handling statistics flushed down the toilet!

i have my stock rims on right now, havent bought the new rims yet, its gunna have to wait a while now cause i now have to pay my insurance in full from the start instead of payments. i also might be getting a deal on undercar neon lights so those most likely will be the next thing i do for my car.
EDIT:does anyone know where i can get cheap tires for 17x8 size rim i dont want to spend a fortune on tires

Yeah, I know what ya mean, I was making a little point about changing the drastic way your whole car will react. Sure! If you can find 17 x 8's that will keep you from having to correct center!
I'd like them myself!
Find some, then get back to me!
Let me know what you find!
I agree that larger rims do make a difference, but I like to keep the center in the center!

I was once asked, "Which is more important, going fast, or looking good?" My imedeate response was going fast. Becasue if you are going fast, you are looking good. Every woman I asked this question to said looking good was more important. This is fine. If you want to build a car to look good to someone else, why not make them pay for it also. If you are that loaded, that you are able to build a car that will appeal to a womans mentality, than go ahead. I would rather have a primered car, with a ground pounding SB that lopes bad enough as to barely idle, than a pretty car, that is slow. Besides, after they get off from the vibrating car that they are in, I'm sure it won't take long for them to realize the pretty car, isn't doing much for them!!!

Snowdog you are being an idiot because you dont know what youre talking about. I have an less than an inch less sidewall than you do and about two inches more rubber on the road on every tire. I pulled off a 2.024 60' on these street tires with a stock suspsension so traction is not an issue. The 17's are not a discomfort. I have noticed LESS driving noise on my 17's on good roads. If you drive on ****ty roads a lot there will be some noise, but our cars have stiff suspensions and you should be hearing that anyways. This lowest sidewall imagineable **** is crap.
I gained comfort AND control. Have you ever made a swift lane change on 17s? The car rolls a hell of a lot less. You actually feel like the car is doing what you want, not hoping you wont slide off the road.
I have this mysterious 0mm offset. The car handles like a dream. It rides excellent. It grips up really well.
Don't knock it till you try it. There is a reason the top model cars have 17s or 18s, they are better performing wheels(SS, T/A, Hawk, Corvettes, etc)
Also tires for 17s are in the 100-150 dollar range, with the higher end stuff being a lot more (**** you dont need, I am totally satisfied with my khumos, $111 a tire)
How is my sidewall Snowdog?

275/40/ZR17's, all four corners.
