Tired of gold centers-gta rims, repaint silver or black?
Tired of gold centers-gta rims, repaint silver or black?
Hey, what would look better silver centers or black centers on a 91 GTA , car is white. I just decided I really dont like the gold centers, I would like a set of those 5 spoke firehawk wheels but cant afford them right now, maybe when my tires are wore out I will break out a credit card and upgrade both. But for now which color? Thanks, Dave

Please Please Please don't do that. There are plenty of folks out there that would love a mint condition 91 GTA...which you have, I've seen it. You go tearing up those rims and you're going to wish you didn't. It's all part of the GTA package...the gold rims...the special emblems...the lack of air extrudor behind the front wheel well...the seats...I can go on & on.
I've seen black GTA rims, they're ok. They were available as options on the Trans Am. If nothing else, buy a set of those and leave the gold set alone. What happens when sometime down the line you want to do a restore or somebody really wants to buy a full GTA??? If you paint your wheels, you're going to have a hard time color matching back to gold. Not to mention your wheel gold coloring is yet to lose its fullness.
I've got a deal for ya. You really want to butcher some GTA rims? I live close to you, so this could work. I'll pay a shop to take my rims off my car and put yours onto mine. You can have my old GTA rims...the paint is starting to fade and look like it needs a restore. This way you aren't ruining perfectly good GTA rims. You go and take my wheels and paint them any freakin' color you like and know that somewhere out there in the Houston area is a beautiful GTA with your beautiful perfect GTA rims on it...on no that beautiful GTA won't be yours...it'll be mine.
Sorry to come off as harsh, but personally I love the GTA rims. The only thing I wish was different is that they were the same size as the Firehawk rims. Color changing a GTA rims is just plain wrong. There's a limited number of these things left, and yours are alot newer than most others. Consider my deal. At least you'd have less guilt after color changing the wheels...knowing that you didn't butcher a perfectly good set of GTA wheels.
Maybe you remember my car:

I know this post is over 2 years old , but it came up when I did a search for the gold GTA rim paint. I had that pic of that white 91 GTA as my desktop a couple of years ago. I would never change the gold color, especially on a white car. Anyway, the gold on mine really needs freshening up. Is this paint available ?, or do I need to have a paint shop mix it up ?
just spend the cash and BUY a set of black wheels. for the price to get them powercoated, you can buy a new black set. and if you paint the gold ones, you'll ruin them. please don't paint the wheels.
LOL didn't realize the post was that old.... hope he didn't paint those wheels!
