rear tint

I am going to tint my hatch window pretty soon and was wondering if you had to cut out places for the defrost lines. Also what brands of tint won't turn purple? I've heard 3M is the only one. Thanks in advance!

Are YOU going to do it?? If not when you go to the place they should be able to do it in one peice (but ask first, I went to Zebart) and ask if their tint goes purple (Zebart will not). Zebart is $200 with 10 year warrenty. If you are doing it, I got tint at Pep Boys for my winter beater and it isnt purple.

The tint on mine goes over the defrost lines, and it got burnt in one place, so I don't use the rear defrost. Also, any tint will turn purple if you clean it with cleaner that has ammonia in it, like some Windex or other type products. Just make sure it says ammonia free on the bottle.

Try Eagle's 20/20. It's tint safe.

My old tint lasted for 10 years before it started to turn purple. Yes use the tint safe cleaners. Also no matter how you care for window film it will turn. A tint guy explained it to me. See the cheap tint you can buy yourself at stores is dyed window film. The sun will fade the yellow pigments out of the tint first. Then you are left with blue and red...hence purple. Same is true for car paint. Reds will get deeper over time because the yellow fades and the blue pigments show up more. Best advise for dyed film. Keep the car covered when it is in the sun or garage it. And stay away from the cheap stuff.

Better yet, go with the new metal tints. They are more pricey and you have to have an installer do it. Don't know how true this is but...I was told instead of using dye they have found a way of using metal. The tint is supposed to never fade and it reduces the heat and UV penatration compared to dyed film. I knew a guy who says he had it on his car. His tint was black, not a reflective tint like you would think. It does not cost anymore to install, but the film is more pricey.

Get an installer to do it and go with a warrenty, just make sure it stipulates what is covered. Hopefully the company will be around if something happens.

Good luck
