Polishing Faces of Wheels

I have an 89 IROC with the gold wheels w/alum. face. i was wondering if i can take a polishing pad on a little airgrinder and polish up just the faces on those and should they look good. would i need to clear coat them again, if so with what? if not would i need to re-polish them ever so often? doesn't look that time consuming, i plan on leaving the gold part of the wheels gold to match the stripes, just polishing the face. thanks

It'll take about 3 hrs per wheel, do a search on this board, I've done it to mine, though different than your IROC wheels, and explained the process.

Mark aint lying...

I got to work this morning on bringing the shine back out on my rims as seen in my sig. Jesus, the work involved. I have two rims done in about 3-4 hours, and damn they look almost new minus minor scratches and such. But damn do they look totally different than the pics in my sig. I been using Blue Magic Metal polishing creme, and clean rags. I tried a corless drill but it just didnt have enough power. Im going to try a power drill on lunch hour and see if that has enough power to polish them up nice.

I think however, I have lost use of my right arm for 2 weeks or so, and my fingers should be oxidized black for about another two weeks.

The first time I did the back wheels, I did everything by hand, man were my fingers sore from the sandpaper. I finally learned my lesson went out and bought a sanding block, and used my brother electric sander. Also I used a dremel to do the polishing, but really I wasn't too impressed with that.

Yes the power tools rule. I use a diegrinder,da sander and cloth polishing wheels on a bench grinder to do my stuff. Aw how heavy the rims get after holding it up for an hour strait, but its worth it Yeah I know the rims not on the car but,
