I'm interested in using Autometer's Z-series cable driven speedo. I have an 89 IROC that has the VSS and buffer on the back of my stock speedo/ gauge cluster. What I'm wondering is what did you guys do with the VSS when you put in the Autometer speedo? Is there a place on the back of the gauge to attach it to? Is there some kind of adapter to get the signals to work? And please don't say just leave it disconnected cuz the ECM needs the VSS for torque conv lock up, etc.

I did a search but no one gave a definite answer on the VSS thing. Thanks for any suggestions!

I just installed an Autometer mechanical speedo in mine, but mine was already a mechanical speedo. Have you tried Autometers web site? They give a phone number for Speedometer Service in Milwaukee, WI that they recommend for cables and adapters. www.Autometer.com

Yeah, my stock speedo is also mechanical. I looked at autometer's page but their accessories are for their electronic speedos. I'll email them and see what they say. Thanks anyway...

How about the painless wiring speedometer sending unit that goes into where the cable goes and then the cable into it ? Im guessing thats pretty much what you need right ? just a sending unit ?
