Seat Interchange

So whats the deal on interchanging bucket seats.

I seen a perfect set of blue seats in a 199? berretta that would match my interior well. I looked like the seat rails bolt up in the same places as in my Firebird. Then I looked at a Buick and it had a way different set up. I called another wrecker and he tried to sell me some red ones from a Tempest.

Even cooler, is there an non-f-body electric seat setup that would work in my car?. I don't mind it being higher. I'm 5'11 and sometimes I gotta perk my neck up to see the bumber in close manuvers.

All I can find in a firebird/camaro are Grey or Red, In perfect condition, cheap too, but they aren't blue.

I lucked-out bigtime and found a mint headliner for $15. Too bad it's tan, but a way better start than fixing mine.

F-bodies are very hard to come by right now. No trans Ams at all in the boneyard.

the deal is...

the biggest part of the changing of seats is for loks & for comfort.. 3rd gen seats are less than standard comfort these days... swapping in new seats makes the car a more comfortable & more customized vehicle... as for Non fbody seats.. if the rails they have dont bolt up to the car, take em off & put YOUR fbody rails on them.. Almost all GM seats will have interchangable rails... as for other brands.. good luck. Some new Mustang seats have been discussed as an option, but i have yet to see it done. :lala:

I've been told that all GM cars have the same seat rails and any GM seat should swap out. I don't know about a Ford to GM swap, but from what I understand, most Fords use the same seat tracks but only have threads in the holes that match the particular model you have. For example, the seat tracks might have holes for Mustang bucket seats and Ranger bench seats, but if you want to put the Mustang seats in your Ranger, you need to get a 8mm X 1.25 tap and use that on the holes to get your bolts to thread through.

I've decided to use my old beater Ranger (174,000 mi's!) as my guinea pig to try out some new things I might use on an f-body later on. I intend to get some Tempo seats this weekend and throw them in my Ranger and get rid of my bench seats. Then I'll have the middle opened to try fiberglassing a console. If it works out well, I'll do a custom console in my next fbody.

some swapability in GM's

I got my seats from a Sunbird Convertible. The seats were identical to the original GTA seats, but I had to swap the mounting rails. The 4 bolt holes in the bottom are in exactly the same place.

That's what I would guess, that the GM seats are all similar, and will interchange, but you will have to use your original F-body mounts/sliders. I'm just guessing, but that should open up a lot more possiblitys for you if you do your homework.

Also, I paid $40.00 for both of mine in the junkyard. They were grubby, but I used one of those rental carpet steam cleaners with the upholstery tool, and it worked bitchen!! Nobody would ever know that they were so grimy!!

I hope this helps. Go shopping!!
