Before I go and screw up my windshield I thought I would see if someone who has done it a few times could give me a few tips. The seal is starting to separate from the glass and figured it would be a good time to fix it with the car already torn apart.
This is something I would bring to a shop who specializes in it but I am stationed in italy and don't trust the locals. Just kind of a pain to get glass over here if they broke it. Also while I am on here I'll ask where to get the gasket or seal for the glass also.

Nearly impossible to do without breaking glass. I've never been able to anyway. I think you need a special tool or something.

 

it's very possible to get it out without breaking the glass, but you can never know until it's too late. Sometimes you can get the knife all the way around, sometimes you don't. I'd say plan on buying a new windhsield.

 

Mine broke but my friends came out in one piece.You'll need loads of heavy duty stanley knife blades and a lot of patience.Also when installing a screen it's a good idea to rub some wet and dry around the outside just enough to take the sharp edge off.It will then be less likely to crack from the edge,not common but it does happen.

 

Go to a store that sells neew windsheilds and get a piece of piano wire (one foot usually will work). Use a pick to poke a hole in the urethane and lide the wire through and clamp a set of vise grips on both ends and use it like a saw. It takes about a hlaf an hour or so but I've never had one break (knock on wood) and have take several out. A friend at a body shop I was working at showed me this trick and I have done it this way ever since.
