Upper door hinges - again.

I have to replace the upper door hinge on the drivers side of my 86 Camaro. It appears someone has tried to repair it in the past and it has been modified (butchered) to the point that replacement pins won't work. I know the original is welded, and the parts guy can't tell me if the replacement needs to be welded or if it can be bolted in.
I assume lots of people have replaced this hinge so the simple question is: Is the GM replacement part need to be welded in, or can it be bolted in.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Mine are close to the same condition. I will buy the aftermarket ones advertised for, like, 96 bones. The GM ones look to be a PITA and will sag again in a few years.

I saw the aftermarket ones advertised in here somewhere. Looked a whole lot better than the stock.

Jim.

Are they butchered so badly that my replacement pins&bushings won't work?

Cutting the old hinge off of the door is only to be done as a last resort. It really is a ghastly process! If I can help you out I will. I can even make some cusrtom ones to fit only your car. Can you get any good digital images of the butchery?

Thanx,ANDYZ28

The GM replacment hinges are bolted in. The factory hinges have to be cut off. You drill holes through the panel that the hinges mounts to. You then put a {sandwich} plate inside the door. What I mean is. the new hinge will go in the same location as the old one with the exception that you will put bolts through the panel of the door that the old hinge was welded too. The bolts will then screw into a plate that you will put on the inside of the door on the other side of that panel. This will in affect sandwich the panel of the door that the hinge was origionally welded to. Hope i've explained it well, its pretty hard to describe. Have you checked www.3rdgensolutions.com to see if thier kit will work for you. I've used it and couldn't be happier with the results.

If you need more explanation let me know!

OOPS.... sorry Andy didn't see you post there! You beat me by a few mins. I"m still very satisfied with the product. Glad to see you came out with greaseable pins. I'm sorry I missed out on those!
