yet another, power windows post.....

I really dispise these power windows.... i want to change them to manual. so I have some questions...

1.) If changing the window motor prior to
installation, drill a hole in the sector gear and install a temporary bolt to secure the gear in place. The large counterweight spring can have a significant amount of
tension behind it. ---> what the sector gear?

I could just drill out the rivits in the door, unhook the lever action from the window and wrestle the thing out of there? any tips???

I just did it the other way, manual to power. ( I found it easier if you have someone to hold the window and jiggle it around while you pull out the motor. It was a PITA to put in the power motors cuz they are soo big so I had problems with the bolts but you should be fine. Make sure you have good set of drill bits, I busted one of mine trying to drill out the rivits. If you want PM I got the manual window dranks and handles

When i changed my window motor in my passengers side, all i did was just wedge sometime to hold the window up in full position, then drill the three rivets out that hold the motor in, then once the old motor is out drill the holes that u made in the sheet metal to get the rivets out and make them much bigger so you can get the bolts through that came with the new motor, next all i did was put in the new motor, line it up and start putting the bolts through.

After the three bolts are secure with thread lock and nuts, plug in the new motor and see if it works right berfore putting the rest of the door together.

Yeah its easier to pull out the manual, cuz there is no big motor on it. the window is attached to it all by runners. The crank, either manual or power has 2 arms, and on the arms there are rollers, the rollers fit in to the tracks that are mounted on the window.

do not need to secure the sector gear to the regulator if you're removing the entire regulator assembly from the door.

will need to secure the regulator scissor arms in place though if you're removing the window lift motor from the regulator.
