Junkyards that specialize in 3rd gen parts?

My brother's 85 Z-28 daily driver got hit while parked and I'm trying to repair it on the cheap. Are there any junkyards that have 3rd gen body parts in stock and ready to ship? My fender guy (who I trust knows what he's doing) says the yards on his body shop "network" between NY and VA don't have anything at all, if you can believe that!

I need a whole front bumper cover, driver's fender, hood, and driver's side headlight assy., near as I can tell so far. There's no damage to the "hard parts" like the rad. support or anything like that that I can see.

Thanks in advance.

Damon,

I recently did alot of work to my car and repainted it, and have most all of those parts left over. (fenders, iroc/Z28 hood, etc.) Let me know if you need them. I am near southeastern baltimore, actually, come to think of it we met at last years tealnet picnic.

Use the ad banners at the top of the page. Also, PM or e-mail a guy by the member name of LFN AT U. He's got a few junked out thirdgens that he parts out.

I have personally dealt with Hawk's and Third Gen Resource and would reccomend them both. Bruce and Bj (Hawk's)and Roy and Stacey (TGR) are good people.

Damon, don't trust those junkyard networks. I've heard the same thing many times, and it's all BS. Why? They only network with their friends- and if a yard doesn't have their network, they can't account for that yard's inventory. I was told "no parts in NJ for that car" so many times, and then I'd drive down the road to another junkyard, and guess what; they have 3 f-bodies in there.

You'll have to do what I do, drive around to all the junkyards in person. And always bring your full toolbox- you never know when you'll find something rare, or something you wanted but never thought you'd find!

What would a door cost? Power windows, power locks. My driver side has a rust hole in it. I also need fenders, but I think they are about 75 a peice, and a front bumper for 75 Through Hawks.

Erik- I might be interested in that. I remember you from the picnic- fellow Malibu owner. I you don't list email on this board and I don't think I have you in my address book. Could you send me an email and, if you feel like it, a phone number and I'll give you a shout back.

I am getting in touch with some of the advertisers to this board as well. If I can find something local (couple hours drive time) I prefer to deal with people I can actually see F2F.

Doors are pretty heavy to get shipped. Your best bet is to check local papers for people that are parting out third gens. When you find someone give them a shout and ask if they have doors too. I did the same thing and got a set of perfect doors with power everything in both plus all of the switches and the harnesses for about $150. One other thing, you CAN swap doors from Camaro to Firebird and vice versa you just have to watch which years you choose to do it with. I was told it couldn't be done, that the body lines wouldn't match and that I'd have to find a set from a firebird. I tried it anyways and successfully swapped doors from an 89RS onto my 85 bird and it looks great.

Depends on what you're looking for, I know Cookstown Auto north of TO on the 400 has a couple lying around, but you have to go and look yourself. I've been told several times that they didn't have anything only to go there myself and find it.

Yeppirs, that's me.

I just looked into that and for some reason my email link does not work under my profile, I reactivated it though. I will toss you over a PM with my contact info as well, keep an eye peeled in there.

I guess we're lucky here in GA...there are two Pull-A-Part yards here ($1 admission, usually 8-10 3rd gens, and the stuff is cheap...usually $10 for a dashpad, $25 or so for a fender, about the same for a bumper cover...heck, we got an 84 TA disc brake rear for $37!), plus several other yards with similar selection and only slightly higher prices. Plus, if I'm in a bind, Hawk's and Speed Automotive http://www.speedautomotive.com (4th gen stuff)are only 1 shipping day away, or about a two hour drive!

must be freakin nice! most of the yards around here won't let you walk around in there unless they are with you, affraid that you'll jack something from them or something. let me tell you, all those guys boosting parts from a junkyard.....lol. i guess i can see where they are coming from, but it seems kind of ridiculous.

I am thinking about making a GA run. Around here there are alot of maros but hardly any birds!! About 12-3 maros at one scrap yard. The other problem is that they think they have gold down here. One place wanted $8 for the tail light pig tail. The socket pigtail for one bulb!!!

We have gotten whole tail lights for that...we once came out of there with three wheelbarrow loads of stuff...consoles, dashpads, overhead consoles, Berlinetta wheel/cluster/pods, interior panels, suspension stuff...all for a little over $200.

They're pretty decent guys there, for most parts they have their techs run around with the trucks and pull 'em off for you while you wait. I've been there often enough though to know where the birds are and I've spent enough money there that they know when I come back I'll be buying something. I just tell them that I'm taking a walk out to check out what they've got and then if I find something I come back and grab some tools and pull it off. Some things I got cheap, some things I paid more money for, so it all seems to work out in the end. The problem of course is that yards that even have firebirds or camaros are few and far between so if you do find them they're usually pretty picked over. It took me all day between 4 different cars to get a decent set of interior plastics the last time I was there.

The other problem is the hooligans that come for what they want with no regard for anyone looking for anything else which ticks me off. I've seen overhead consoles with the lenses broken off or wires ripped out, center consoles with smashed sides from someone trying to get out a seatbelt.. stuff like that. The stupid things are hard enough to find without ruining decent parts because somebody's in a hurry.

Since no one has recommended it thus far I will. Try Thoms *** at House of Camaro. He buys local (SoCal) IROCS & Z28's and parts them out. He ships parts nationwide and worldwide all the time. link to his web site:http://www.geocities.com/motorcity/g...houseofcamaro/
