props for chevy customer service- seatbelt buckle recall
My buckles fit the description of the safety recall-pink, scratched, unbuckle themselves, etc. So I went to the local dealer and have them run my VIN to check for outstanding recalls, they find none. So instead of getting mad at them I call Chevy customer service and explain the story, they take my VIN and they find nothing at first, then they find that in their system my VIN has an extra letter (making 18 total characters instead of 17) and an 8 shows up as a B.
So the lady uses this new VIN and finds no open recall campaigns so she calls the archive department which finds the info. She then contact the dealer who can't find the campaign info either and after three days and several phone calls they finally find it and I have four new buckles on the way, I even got to choose the color I want, I got black so I don't have to worry about which shade of tan my interior is and then having a mismatched set of buckles, I figure black will match my seat covers. All the ladies were really nice too.
chevy customer service: 1-800-222-1020
gm campaign number: 90043, might be different for pontiac
nhtsa campaign number: 90 c-22 for camaro and 90 c-10 for pontiac

i believe the recall effects '84-90 cars and symptoms are: red button turns pink and scratches easily, belt either wont lock or wont unlock all the time. search your car on www.nhtsa.com to see if it applies to you. there have also been several earlier threads on the topic that you can search for

Great, glad it worked out! And thanks for those #s, too!
You said you got to choose the colors you wanted... of the buttons? Or are they going to send you the whole seatbelt assembly? The usual recall work just involved replacing the buttons themselves; they're held in with a "new" silver clip that you can see from the outside of the seatbelt assembly.

So they are sending you the whole thing, or just the button to replace it, I know in the orginal recall they just put new buttons in. But since you chose the color it seems to be the whole buckle.
oops sorry didn't refresh the page didn't relize some had asked this already. :-)

So I had my appointment today, the lackey working the counter couldn't find any info on the recall even though I spoke with the service manager and he said everything was set. So the lackey said he'll do the work because I said that the manager said it was ok (manager wasn't there) but that the dealership probably won't get reimbursed because there's no paperwork. An hour later I had shiny new buttons, not whole buckles, which is fine by me. Another lackey said that they'll have to mail me some paperwork because they couldn't find the campaign papers, I'm not sure what that means but I'll worry about it when I get it.
