Hatch strut strength
At the moment I have the spoiler off my hatchback. When it's off, the reduced weight makes it take a bit of effort to lower the hatch. I took the struts off for the time being for fear they might be damage the hatchback, but it's too annoying. Am I just being paranoid? Or am I doing the right thing and keeping them off until I get a new spoiler?
I was thinking it over, and the stress they'd be exerting on the hatch would be the same while it was down weather the spoiler was on it or not because it'd be the latch that was holding it down. But I'd like know for sure either way.

I would just watch and see if it looks like it is gonna pull away from the body. I wouldn't think it would matter though, same force has to be exerted either way. When I bought my car the mount was pulled away on the body side, $100 to fix.
i dont think you will hurt anything by leaving the hatch struts on, but if it hard to pull down i will just leave the struts off to be easier on you...
the less weight makes the hatch come up quicker and when the struts bottom out they make the whole hatch shake a bit, like i have everything on my hatch and if the weather is very hot like around 100, and i pop the hatch the hatch flies up really quick by itself and when it gets to the top it bounces alittle from the quick acceleration, i would guess doing this this alot cant be that good on the hatch hinges..
so i would just leave them off for now, better safe then sorry.

I don't mind holding onto the hatch so it doesn't fly up. I still go in and out of it a fair bit, and lifting that thing without the struts is not fun. Also, lifting it by hand, if you're not in the center, then there's uneven pressure and it can twist a bit.
I'm just worried about when it is down, if the struts would cause damage then. If they don't, it'll make my life easier putting them on.
