GTA Headrests

How do I get the headrests out of the driver and passenger seats? I want to reuse mine headrests but my original seat structures are shot. I have a set of tan cloth that I will use the foam and frame of and I just want to pop in my old headrests being they are already black leather. Am I missing the trick? or are they not meant to pop right out?

Unless there's something different about my headrests...yanking towards me doesn't do a thing. There is certainly something stopping the post from coming all the way out. I have the seat completely apart and I can see the post channel that the post goes into. There has to be a logical explanation, I can't imagine that GM made the seats with the intention of NEVER letting the headrests out.

Ok heres what to do. First, you need a long piece of plastic or sheet metal. It neds to be about 10-12" long and about 1 to 1-1/2" wide. It also needs to be very thin... no more that 1/16 of an inch if that. Well call this the "tool".

Now, with the headrest all the way up, slide the tool down the front of the headrest post, down into the seat, untill it stops. Then, push the headrest down, making sure that the tool goes down along with the headrest. Now, holding the tool in place, pull the headread up and out, and your done. When putting them back in, just push them in and they will clip by them selves.

Good luck!

I knew there had to be a logical method. Thanks, that did the trick in a snap. 1-2-3. The people that I bought my house from must have been car thieves because when I moved in I found several "tools" in the garage. The EZ Slim Jim I have did the job no problem. I knew I could count on you guys. BTW, sweet convertible 88WS6.
