I prefer a 9" Ford, but the 12 bolt is a good rear also. Moser has some of the best, either way...

I put a 3.73 1983 7.5" Posi into mine from my parts T/A, had no problems, I will run it until I blow it up, then I will be getting stronger gears.

From what I hear, there are some people running 10's that still use thier stock axel, so unless there is something wrong with it I don't plan on changing mine.

I will be going to a Ford 9" if I happen to be blosing out axels tho.

With an automatic, its probably not much of an issue unless its dragged a lot, but a stick car with decent power and sticky tires will start breaking rears in no time. The axles generally hold up, though I have seen them fail, too...its usually the gears themselves, because the housing is weak and flexes from the torque. I have broken two in 4th gens, one in a stock 3.23 geared automatic daily driver, the other in a 320 horse or so 95Z 6 speed car. I learned my lesson, and my SS got a Moser 9" before I did too much drag racing with it (removed the 10 bolt, which had a Torsen , TA cover, and 4.10 gears...the new owner broke it a couple mnoths later).
