I'm in the process of making a custom door panel out of fiberglass b/c I'm shaving the door handles in a few weeks and I wanted to get rid of the latch/lock and replace it with a button. I don't really car for the arm rests to much, plus mine are coming apart no matter how much JBweld or epoxy put under the foam. I really have two questions though as I do this. The first is how do I attach the door panel to the door? I was gonna use some hardboard for the backing and try and reuse the little plasitc clips that are on the stock door panel, but will this be enough? Also how would I go about attaching the new panel in such a way that when you pull on the handle it doesn't just rip the panel off? What I'm hoping to do is create something like the door panel that was in our 66 mustang, where it just had like a little cup that you grabbed onto to close the door, instead of the whole big armrest thing. Has anybody done this before and know how to re-enforce the door handle so that I don't crack the fiberglass when I go to shut the door? Thanks, Joe

i can only think of one thing and that is you would have to keep the handle (or armrest whatever you want to call it) in the stock location and use the screw holes in the door but your handle will have to be strong enough to take the years of use. and for the mounting if your going to make new panels just have some sort of slit in the fiberglass so you can pop those thing is it would have to be double layerd around the edges though. but that my opinion
