fixing a peeled colum......
fixing a peeled colum......
Well, some dick decided to try and steal my car yesterday. He peeled the colum but didn't know there was a cut off switch... So he moved on to the next car(My brother's T/A with no motor..). I dropped the colum and looks like I'm going to just need to replace the bowl and the round like ring thing that pulls on the rod to start the car. I'm guess I'm going to need to pull the whole colum out just to replace these???
Also, one of my turn signals doesn't shut off once I make a turn and to get my high bema lights on, I need to slam the turn signal lever back hard. What do I need to do to fix this?
thanks
Brian

Just go to the junk yard and get one. I had the same thing happen, if you have the VATS system, the chip in the key you will need to put your old key cylinder in the new one. One thing to watch, it is real easy to break the brake light swithch in the floor, if you do this the brake lights dont work, nor does the cruse shut off.
You should be set to go, don't try to crank the car w/o the right key cylinder if you have the vats system, or you will have to wait a few min to crank it again.
I got the colum, key, and wheel for $70, which would probably be cheeper than getting the parts individually, and they probably busted the steering lock, so you might as well replace it. In the new colum make sure you get a key, where you can the the old key cylinder out.
All in all it cost me about 300 bucks to fix everything, they stole my radio, and scratched the paint around the windshild.
