Cowl Induction hood questions

I just bought a 2" harwood fiberglass cowl induction hood. Its used though. There are 6 holes in it for pins i guess. I was told that i cant put pistons on it to lift it up, so i have to lift the hood off whenever i do engine work. Is this bad/illegal? How would i fill those extra holes in, and how many pins will i need, i just bought a pair of locking pins. And this thing isnt going to lift on while im driving or anything righ!?!?!

i suspect bondo would do a decent job of filling the holes if you apply it right. there's gonna need to be a pair (2) of pins in the front corners and another pair (2) in the rear corners. I've never used the locking pins, but i was told that they are prone to breaking and there's a warning in jegs and summit and on the package they come in that they're not to be used as the only method of securing the hood. If you insist on using them, i'd use them at the back corners and use standard pins upfront. Good luck...

If it will bolt to the stock hinges, you can leave the pistons off, or maybe use one 'worn-out' piston to hold it open. You don't want too much pressure on it because it may not be braced in the hinge area and would be prone to cracking.
