hatch release

I have a '85 TA without the hatch release. I'd like to put one on. I'd also like to use the OEM style switch. What would I need, how would I hook it up and where could I find the parts? I don't care if the release is oem or aftermarket, I just want to use the OEM style switch.

Thanks

Matt

not sure on all of this, but i know you will need the cable that goes from the lock to the hatch pulldown mechanism. the one you have right now is manual, but with the electric release there is a solenoid attached to it that is energized by the switch. you will need this cable, the switch, wiring to connect the two, and that may be it.

I don't really want the pulldown motor, just the release. Do I have to use it? Couldn't I just have the release?

Yes you can add a solenoid release to your latch. You just have to add the solenoid release for a 1982-85. One 10mm bolt to mount the cable actuated by the solenoid to the latch a 2nd one to mount the solenoid to the body. You might have to drill the hole for that one, not sure. Then wire in the relay (mounts next to the parking brake in the center console directly below the switch) and wiring to the solenoid. I can e-mail you a picture of the unit if you need to see it. This is a different solenoid release than was used on the 1986-91 hatch pull-down units.

Thanks. Yeah, please e-mail me a pic. Also, how many wires go from the solonoid to the relay, and from the relay to the switch? How is it powered and how is it hooked up to the latch? Where could I get the parts? I have access to a '86 parts car that has a pulldown motor, could I take parts from there?

Thanks again for the help.

There is just one wire to the solenoid (black). Yes you can get the wiring from another car, even the '86. Grab the entire wiring from the switch to the relay, then from relay to the solenoid.
