I am curently working on an alluminum gauge plate for my camaro and was wondering if anyone has made or bought one of these and if so I would like to see some pictures of how it looks all together. I am not talking about a plate with aftermarket gauges in it just a plate to go where the stock plastic one was.

i got one of these from speedhut.com on ebay, it looks pretty sweet and it was only 20$. if you go to ebay, search for camaro bezel and youll see a bunch come up and there will be one for ither 82-90 or 91-92, ive got a 92 RS and it was well worth the 20$

I made one that goes where the stock plastic one went.And one that delete's the radio and a/c,heater controls.


As a matter of fact I just got done working on it.I have had them made a for a while.I work in a sheetmetal shop.Right now we are working on a job where the duct work will be by a pool.Like an indoor pool.So all the duct it made out of aluminum.So we have plenty of scrape.I just brought some home.Used the stock plastic peice as a template and cut it out.I didn't like the edge's like they where.So I took a peice of hose and cut a slit in it and ran it over the edge all the way around.Right now there isn't any holes in it for the gauges.I am going to have an aftermarket 5 inch tach,speedo,and shift light in there.Where the radio used to be will be for my other gauges.

Earlier I got to wondering how I got the peice with all the lights in it that goes right behind the gauges.The white peice they all plug into.Well I ended up tearing the entire dash out of the car.While I had it apart I removed the heater core.And all the wiring behind the dash.My car is for the strip only.I plan on getting a painless wiring setup.For Just the basic's.I thought about making an entire dash out of aluminum.I decided against it though.It looks like it will be pretty hard to make some aftermarket gauges fit in there though.I got tired of messing with it.So I came up stairs.I am off work monday and plan on putting it back togother then.

 

that speedhut piece is badass. I just might have to order it! I was thinking about making my own but its not worth it when I can buy one for 20 bucks that will probably be better than anything I could make.

 

what exactly does the heater core look like? ? ? I need to replace myne... and I have no idea what it looks like

 

Uh well it it kind of like a little radiator.It is on the passenger side.Behind the dash.There is a cover over the heater core itself.It isn't really a cover.Hard to explain.

Just look for the 2 hoses that run into the firewall.That will give you an idea of where to look.

Be warned though.Aparently GM ordered way to many screws and decided to put them in useless spots under the dash.It took me 3 hours to get the dash out.It was a real pain.
