That right there is why I went with the SPAL conversion kit over putting in the power acuators. I'll replace the kit a dozen times before I go after anything inside the door.
Yep...I know how that goes.....that's exactly how my arms looked after installing power windows in my RS....it was worth it though!
when I installed mine, I tried wearing gloves and they got ripped apart!
it only took me $50 and 16hours (and much swearing as you can fit into that much time)....and I still don't envy doing that swap ever again!

Man, I'd say your hands look pretty good compared to mine after I changed my starter for the first time!

I've got money saying your hands looked better after your first starter swap than my head and face did after my first starter swap.

I used to get more damaged than that every time I changed my plugs until I finally pitched that POS aluminum plug wire looms I had.
My power window retrofit project took a good chunk of time too.
Suspected that all i'd need for parts were the regulators, wiring, switches and miscellaneous mounting hardware but wasn't positive. Could not get a definite answer out of anyone on the boards at the time about what parts i'd need either.
Also had the fun of removing the drivers side power window regulator after I inadvertently installed it inside the passengers door.
If anyone else is considering adding power windows to their ride, take a look at the tech article I wrote first:

You're very correct about window motors giving problems in older thirdgens, that's why I recommend that you replace the motors with new ones before you install the regulator assemblies inside the door. Aftermarket motors are around $50/each. Changing the motor is easy when you can stick the entire regulator in a vise on the workbench, it's not such an easy task when the regulator is still inside the door though. Another trouble point is the switches, but these are around $15/each new at the dealer.
Cranking the windows gets old rather quickly if the car is the daily driver. Another thing that gets old is having to hold the power window button while the window is moving. Now, I've got "one touch" windows in the bird, just quickly tap the button once and the windows will roll fully up or down. Sort of like the fourthgens have except on both windows and in both directions. No need to hold the switch.

I guess this is where i'm thankfull I have small hands hehe I replaced the window motors and the lil black plastic things at the front of the windows beside the mirrors. 1 single scratch...I couldn't get the mirror adjusting thing off
Well...that's how my hands and arms usually look after putting in some wrench time... Still have the scar from changing the starter in my old Escort... fortunatly, I managed NOT to drop the Camaro's starter when I was replacing it...
Dude my power window conversion was easy in my old RS...we just took off one of the tracks, 2 bolts, popped all the rivets, puts bolts back in, and was done, prolly less than 30 minutes from taking off the door panel to putting it back in...dropping that track, the regulators just pull out or push in!

I just got done switching to power windows (its 2:30 in the morning) and it only took me 8 hours
. I have to mount the switches still though, so that will make it about a 10 hr project. And my hands are torn to s***. I look like I was mauled by a butter knife or sumthin.
I have a question though...I need to find a way to get power to my switches and 2vmodulars tech article said use the pink or red wire from the fuse box...but there are lots of red and pink wires on my fusebox...which one do I use? There is only one BIG red one, and I tryed to pull it out, but couldnt get it, and I really dont want to break my fuse box...can anyone help?

I did the swap last year.. and my hands didn't look like that..lol.. though I need to change the driver side regulator this year.. I agree the motors are a bit slow.. but I'm going to see how hard the motor units come apart.. perhaps I can replace the motor with a faster one.. .. or perhaps a motor from a different manufacture could be made to fit.. Though the gear would be a problem.
Got ya
I have you all beat! Actually my brother...he almost lost a finger working on his 3rd Gen. See we were late for school and it wouldn't crank so he told me to crank it so I tried a few times....to make a long story short you know that "CAUTION FAN" sign...it's because of people like him that it is there.

LOL, I think the only thing that could have cut up my hands more than the power window swap was when the spring on the regulator came loose!
I also used that article and it saved me a lot of problems. Thanks for a great write up.

What would I search for on ebay to find those one touch switches? I tried a few things but didn't come close.
Also, would it be easy to use cheap simple toggle switches from radioshack or something? Would the ones that stay in the position you switch them into work? I don't mind having to switch them "off" when the window stops moving. (At least for now... $60 is too much for me at the moment.)
