I was given a tilt column from a 90 Camaro. The problem is that my 83 Firebird does not have delay wipers or cruise and the Camaro column has controls for both on the turn signal lever. I would kind of like to use this column because it is from a car that was rear-ended with only 14K miles on it and the column is like brand new.

I was thinking that I could convert the car to delay wipers. I imagine it can be done with all junkyard parts. Has anyone done this? What is required?

I have no use for cruise control, but I thought using the on/off switch and pushbutton activation would be a sneaky way to control a nitrous setup. Has anyone tried this?

Will I encounter any other problems since the 90 had an airbag and VATS and all that? Any insight would be helpful.

 

Dunno about the airbag and VATS stuff, but you'll only need to swap in a wiper motor that has the delay feature for that to work, as well as switch a few wires around in the wipers' wire connector at the column. I've got the 'rewiring' list around somewhere, as I've swapped an 84 column into my 83 SC. Make sure the motor you get is from an 82 or 83 as the 84-up won't bolt in due to different mounting pattern and lack of firewall clearance.
