Finally got the cage in

Buddy took me out drinkin to celebrate me buying out the business Fri. night and I was supposed to start putting the cage in Sat. mornin, but...u know what it feels like after a night out and I did'nt feel like bangin on metal with a head that felt like a watermelon. About 7 another buddy calls me up and see's what 's happenin, of course nothing but I was pretty invloved in an episode of Monster Garage, then it hit me; dude, let's go put my cage in quick. So we got started about 8pm and left the garage at midnight, not too shabby for the first time installin a cage, guess having all the tools helped too, it's mainly for looks as this car will never see anything much bigger than she has now, so I only did a 6 point as the 2 smaller bars to make it an 8 really don't do anything unless you have a ladder bar or 4 link set-up with the chasis crossmember to tie them into, could'nt see welding them to the tranny tunnel and fighting the carpet install later. Lemme know what ya think.

Yeah, it's the Jeg's 8 point, ended up $236 to my door, truck frieghts a bitch, anyway, like I said I only made it a 6 point cause the 2 kickers coming off the hoop & back bar really were'nt gonna serve any purpose in my situation except installing the new carpet a nightmare. You will need a good size MIG to install it and be legal, if you should ever go that fast. I have 2 Miller 130's, but ended up getting the neighbors Miller 210 ugh, ugh cause I think the rule book states you need to use at least a 145. Had to take about 2 1/2" off the hoop, custom cut angles for the door bars where they meet the floor plate, cut the seat belt back bar to length and fish mouth it. The back bars I cut off at like 37 1/2" with approx. 50 degree angle where it hits the plates above the tank.
Worst part was installing the floor plates cause of rubber sealer and old floor pans, you'll need a torch to bend the plates to contour the floor boards behind the driver/pass seat and front pass. door bar.
Then I just took some 1x2 I had laying around, cut the fish mouth, measured out 2" then cut a 45 degree angle, cut out the bottom so the peice was 3 sided instead of boxed, and welded top and underneath. Ended up going in better than I thought, plus got to use an auto-darkening helmet-I liked it, but I did'nt. Everytime the welder would hit a "paint, rubber, rust, what ever" it'd trick the helmet by making it think the arc is gone and that split second the lens would go out and then it'd rearc and boom white lights in your eyes after 3hrs. welding it kinda sucked. Plus my neck is sore as a M.F.'er last night and today-gotta be a frickin contortionist, it was easy fun though. I just don't like the fact they TAPE the paperwork to the hoop with permeant bond clear packing tape-*** that was a bitch getting off.

Hell no! When I got the car it had some brand of sunroof that everything-including the glass was red, looked gawdy as hell. I got a new, bigger one so I will have to mod the hole a little bigger before it gets painted, at least this new one is black so it'll go with the finished car better.
