compounding and glazing 89' TA

What do you guys think of using Gliptone Show Gloss and 3M Rubbing Compound? Also, when i'm going to wetsand, what grade sandpaper should I use? I heard that 2,000 is enough, is that true? Also where would be the best place to get touch up paint that matches my stock black color. I have a couple of deep knicks that i wanna touch up, compound, etc. Let me know any of your ideas. thanx

This sounds like a thread for the boys in the Apperance and Detailing Forum!

I agree, but to answer the question .THe 3M compounds work great! Very nice! As for wet sanding it all depends. Well how bad the scrathces are. For simple scratches I use 1500 micro, then 2000 micro, then 3 stages of buffing and a final wax. If your scratches are really bad you may need to use 600 then 800 then 1200 and then the other 2, I mentioned above. Make sure you pre-soak you sand paper, and use a flat bar or something to keep you sanding level. Also mask of any rubber before buffing, this will keep you from burning the rubber by accident, plus compounds can be really hard to get out of certain types of rubbers and plastics. Here is a pic of the setup I use. And then the buffing products also.
