Headlamp gremlins

New to the board with my recently acquired 87 Formula.

My question is, the headlamp motors will occasionally raise and lower the lamps, but sometimes they must be tapped or slightly pulled up on to raise. What would cause this erratic operation?

driving without headlamps at night sucks

thanks

You probably need to replace the plastic spacers in the headlight motors. I guess that's an adequate description, they are little barrel shaped plastic parts that are ~1/4" in diameter. This is a common problem as these spacers are wear items that prevent wear from occuring on the gears themselves. There are three per light and they are available from Fiero websites fairly cheap, around $8 for a complete set the last time I checked. I don't know a link off the top of my head or I would list it. It was a little confusing when I did mine because these spacers were ground into a powder and gave me no reference, I had to look at them for a minute to see how the new spacers went in. You can probably find more info & possibly pics by doing a search.
