Help me out if ya can

I have recently bought a 85 Trans Am. 305 4 bbl, automatic. It is Royal blue w/ grey ground effects, Large bird on the hood, t-tops, grey interior, cloth seats, roof console, cruise, tilt, air, tinted windows, rear defrost, power windows and locks, honeycomb aluminum wheels. The best part about the car is that it has 63,000 ORIGINAL miles on it! The car looks like it has come out of a time machine... EVERYTHING is factory on it. Even the paint is flawless. LAST WEEK I changed the factory plugs, dist cap and rotor button! What I want to know about the car is where to start. I dont want to take the thing apart, but I'd like some suggestions on the cheapest and easiest way to get more power out of the anemic motor. Dont get me wrong, it runs GREAT, but I wish it had a little more power. I have already cleand out the catalitic converter, but what about a computer chip? a muffler? (still has factory one on it) or maybe a hotter coil? A bit new to this, ant ideas are GREATLY appreciated.

I'll have some pics of the car on this site as soon as I get them developed.

yeah, I learned the hard way just how rich the carb is... (I have already cleaned out the cat) I was driving home the other day and my knee bumped the key and shut the motor off for just a sec... the factory muffler just couldnt hold in the fireball that erupted when I turned the key back on... OOOOPS! I have a Flowmaster on order as of today.

sounds like a nice car to start with. I was always a big fan of blue birds.

Sounds like your car is the spitting image of mine. However yours sounds like it is in better physical condition. I know what you mean about the carb 305 being weak. There is no way you can use a computer chip in your car as you have no ECM. Exhaust is a good place to start. Rocker arms, a performance cam, intake. You could do a TPI swap from the carb. It is a pain in the @$$ to do it. I am not sure it is worth it. However it would yeild a huge increase in performance over your existing carb setup. I think however your efforts would be better spent working on the engine and going to a better carb. TPI makes engine swaps and emissions stuff a larger hassle as a whole.
