swapping bumpers and covers

will the bumper and cover from an 86, 87, 88 or 89 swap over to a '92 firebird? i'm looking at a 92 formula that needs a bumper and cover. i don't like the look of the 92 anyway and would prefer to retrofit the old one.

you should have no problem, unless there are/arent ground effects on one and the other. If you look at it, you should be able to know. Just rember, anything is possible if you stick to it and try your hardest!

Dude .......if your going to get the 92 Formula, front bumper covers from the following years will fit right up....86-90, but you will have to change the turn signal lamps back to the year of the cover you install, the 91-92 turn signal lamps are located down below on the impact bumper bar where the others are located on top next to the head lights, also you will need to get the sockets from the older turn signal lamps to splice them into the 91-92 turn signal lamps, wire colors are the same for all years in the front...

1: get whatever front bumper you want 86-90
2: get turn signal lamps also from that year car
3: splice wires into front end for turn signals

and then your good to go......

1992 Firebird, V-8 LO3 TBI, automatic with OD,Forest Green with GFX, Formula hood with working 82-83 ram air unit( inside bulge hood) 92 Tan GTA bucket Seats/GTA rear spoiler/GTA cross spoke rims with 245-50-16 tires,WS6 springs and sway bars,Black and Tan Interior,4th gen am/fm cassette deck with blaupunkt front speakers and cerwin vega 6x9's in the rear....

Mods: aluminum radiator, corvette 200* fan switch,180* stat, ES trans mount, Accel 8mm wires/cap/rotor/coil,bosch plugs, Ravin cat back exhaust system.
under 60,000 miles.

are you sure the impact bar/rubber honeycomb is the same from 85-90 and 91-92? i recently did a 92->85-90 swap, albeit on a trans am, and they were definitely different. i can't speak from experience about the formulas though.
and if you don't care too much what your headlights look like in the up position, you can get away with only changing the black bezels instead of the whole assembly. the 85-90 ones sit on the bumper, the 91-92 ones leave a gap. but the newer lights are smaller, so there's just a hole around them with the bigger bezel installed. you can make a filler from some plastic or sheetmetal, or just swap the headlights later (like i plan to do).

the turn signal wires on 91-92 were shorter, and i needed to splice in about 18" x3 wires on each side. this is because the fender lights are closer to the 91 turn signals than the 85-90s. no big deal, just have wire around. and get white bulbs too, the yellow 92 bulbs were really dim in the yellow enclosure.
