This has to be one of the most overlooked parts that can cause a river flow in your hatch well of the 3rd gen, you'll see in the pic. Oh, I bet you have the same problem as I did. On the decklid theres a rectangular piece of plastic going inbetween the decklid and another part of the decklid. I bet you some of the sealant has left the plastic piece. I could pull the plastic up from where it was suppose to be. I went so far as to squeeze inbetween the glass and rear well and watch where the water was coming in from, it would come in just over the seal. Heres what I mean.

ok, yeah i have looked at that peice before but never thought anything of it....do u think that the piece being like that would allow the water to run on top of the weatherstripping into the camaro? i think that the water just runs around the lip of the hatch into the camaro on top of the weatherstripping.....

Yes, I took off all my rear trim panels, closed the hatch and squeezed into the rear well to watch where the water was coming from. {6" tall} tight squeeze. I had my dad hold a water hose into the top of the gutter part inbetween the roof and the hatch glass. The water would go down through the hatch gutter channel and go inbetween the plastic piece and decklid, and come in onto the weatherstripping. At first I thought it was the weatherstripping, but after exhausting all means to fix it I was scratching my head and had my hand on that piece and was pricking at it and I saw a freakin water trail so I put tons of silicone in there and put some duct tape over the plastic piece so it would all cure. Now I have no more leaks in the hatch
its all bone dry.

ok, i think that i have fixed the problem....on the one side i shaved a little bit off the hatch rubber bumper which made the hatch come down more and i crawled in the back and had my dad shoot the hose on it.....to my suprise i found the water coming in from the bolts of where the tail light is attached to the metal.....so i guess now all i gotta do is caulk the heck outta that area......i dont think that the water runs over the weatherstripping anymore....thanks for the help

i think my car is exactly the same, it is also a '87 sport coupe LT with a 305 (but not for long) and even has the exact same problem with the water leaking.
