Removing decals and paint

I dunno if I'm actually gonna do this. Just a thought. Is there a way to remove the decals without affecting the paint? I like the way the Firebirds look without them, and I thought about taking them off but I dunno how to do it safely, if there is a way. Also I dunno if there will be a noticeable discoloration from the paint underneath the decal.

Yeah, there is.....go to a body shop store. They should have an "eraser"....they fit on the end of a drill...and they take decals and pin stripes off like nothing....cost around 15 bucks or so....they are fantastic!

how much work is it usually to get the paint underneath to match the rest of the panel? i'd like to lose the pinstripe, but afraid there's been some fading...

it's a 92, factory job.

Let me know how it goes. Some of my graphics are pealing and it makes the rest of the car look bad. I would like to try this when it gets warm out.

Being careful with a heatgun is a lot better than the Eraser. An Eraser is only a last resort, and may damage the paint. Even with a heatgun, you almost have to be an idiot to over heat to the point of damaging paint.

I work for a sign shop and we do this all the time.

I have NEVER had any problems with the eraser. I have used the heat gun before...which works pretty good....but...your more likely to damage the paint with that instead of the eraser. A heat gun could easily make the paint soft..and would come right off. If someone didn't operate the eraser correctly...the only thing that would really happen is that it may leave a "mar" in the paint....and those can be buffed out with compounds. Heat guns are great for the larger decals too in my experience. But...i like the erasers for pin stripes...and smaller thin things like that.
