Preping for paint job soon..
Preping for paint job soon..
I dont have alot of time and Im not going to have have alot anytime soon.. I want to repaint my Berlinetta this summer but I have some dings and dents and rust that has to be dealt with first.
First I would like to work on the rust and get it squared away. Can I grind out the rust (surface) and fill what needs it.. then prime it and simply put a can of clear coat on it till this summer? As I have said before.. I dont have alot of time so I can only do the work is small steps.
Next thing.. I see there is alot of people who dont think Bondo is a good thing to use.. what other products can I use?? There's some fillers out there the are fiberglass based.. short stranded and long stranded.. can this be used in place of bondo?
As for bare metal.. I have some rust that will have to taken right down to metal.. what is the very next step I need to do?? Phosphoric acid?? then the filler?
Thanks for all your help and time guys

you dont have to spray clear over primer, the primer will not let mosture through, but you will have to wet sand it before to get the grime off of it. as for bondo, it is good for medium to small holes. the pitting and small dings it is best to use a product called iceing, just go to an autobody supply store and they will know what you are talking about. the fiberstrand is good stuff but unnecessary for small holes and whatever else and is a bitch to work with (it sucks to get it in your hands).
good luck
thanks
